For largemouth ill take overcast with a slight sprinkle and a slight chop. Topwater bite is usually amazing and big fish. Smallmouth for me depends on the lake. A few I love to fish for smallies in Northern Michigan they love the crappiest windiest rainiest weather. Then others its better when its glass calm and sunny all day. We have literally caught a 24lb bag in horrible weather ran to a lake with bigger fish and cant buy a bite lol. Fish are fish I guess.

In the winter, sunny days, shallower waters on the edge of shadows.

Summer overcast, seem to move more away from cover. Plus for my sake..... it so hot here.

Overcast by far. Im a largemouth guy and in my 20 years chasing them I can count all the sunny day big bas (6lbs up) on one hand I think. I caught 4 bass 6+ last year...3 days were overcast. I ain't scared of a little rain either...caught a mid 20s lb bag a few falls ago in light rain on a buzz bait. Had a stretch of 2 5s and a 6 in like ten casts.

I prefer overcast with a slight ripple. I dont fish sunny days much anymore, especially days with little to no wind.

I caught my top 3 biggest bass on sunny days though, come to think of it. I seem to catch more numbers on cloudy days .

It doesn't really make much of a difference to me as far as catching fish, but I'm much more comfortable in overcast conditions. I can fish longer and not feel as whooped.

I try to only fish top water if I can and have way more luck on sunny days.

I can pick one off every now and then. But I still do better in the shadows even when the sun is up. One thing I like to do is go early or late when it's warm. That gives me another chance at low light conditions. I consider the frog to be a different thing altogether. They work well for me sometimes in full sun.
