CCI makes a .45ACP shotshell. They don’t function reliably in semi-automatic pistols so be prepared for that.

I’ve had customers tell me Snake shot bounces off snakes but regular bullets work much better

Yes, this is what I keep hearing. I guess there is a difference between crimped metal case and the plastic crowned(?)

or the Judge

the Judge is pretty common on farms

No funds for new gun, but I like it. At least I wouldn't have to worry about the cycling problem.

I used to load 6 or #8 shot in a .38 or .357, using the CCI capsules. At 4 or 5 feet, it was lethal. I am not sure why the inability to re-chamber a round in a .45 would matter, it only takes one shot to take one out. A Taurus Judge works, but the .410 is really way more than you need. And a .44 with a load of #6 shot is a very good grouse load, even the Blues.

I’m guessing the people telling me the story didn’t get close enough

Not my style, I have a scorched earth policy when it comes to snakes!

Well, at 4 or 5 feet, there usually wasn't much of the snakes head left. I imagine it works out to 10 feet if the pattern is tight enough. I killed three of four dozen with a various handguns, then switched over to a 4 foot pole with a noose on the end. It was very effective, and didn't spook the horses.

I can assure you that from a .38 they are quite lethal on snakes within 9-10 feet.

Yeah I’m guessing the people telling me were trying from too far away.
