I recently bought an Ark Randall Tharp B-Hittay composite rod. It’s a great chatterbait rod and I also like throwing lipless cranks on it, but I would like to find a slightly shorter rod for casting around docks and target casting on the bank. I noticed the 7’ Grinder composite model has the same line and weight ratings. Hoping to get some insight if it would be a good shorter target casting alternative...

TS-70MH-G - "Grinder""This composite cranking rod was built for fishing square bills and small crankbaits. It's short length and precise action make it great for target fishing or just burning the bank. Brand new materials and technology make this the lightest and most sensitive composite rod ever built without sacrificing the benefits that a glass rod has when fishing a treble hook lure." - Randall Tharp

Can't help otherwise.  Your post has me thinking about getting one.  Thanks.....NOT.

EDIT:  The B-Hittay was one of two rods I bought when the Tharps were on sale.  What were your initial thoughts when you first got the rod?  Care to give a little review of it?

I was surprised at the rod's diameter.  Initially this put me off.  Probably because of the poor experience I had with a rod of similar diameter.  However, reviews of the rod seem great so it is something I am sure to overcome.  Weight is a bit heavy at 6.31 oz., but let's get real.  Back in the day this was probably an average and light for a rod of its length.  We have become spoiled.  With an 8.5 oz. reel (with reel cover), a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait in the hook keeper, it balances right at the hook keeper.

When I first got the B-Hittay I was unsure if I would like it. It was my first experience with a composite rod. I was so used to straight graphite that it felt really heavy. Once I put a reel on  I felt a little better about it. I paired it with a Daiwa Tatula 100 which is 6.9oz. It balanced extremely well with that reel. It throws 3/8oz chatterbaits pretty good, but I felt like it was made for 1/2oz. I don’t throw anything larger than 1/2oz so I can’t say anything about heavier lures. I haven’t caught a fish on it as of yet bc the spawn is in full swing down here in South Louisiana, but as far as castability and feel on the retrieve go, I’m really happy with it.
