Jmp_37 Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 Went out fishing with a guide today and caught this monster. We weight it and it went 9.08lbs. We got a rough estimate with fishing line for a replica but they came out to 29in by 21.5. That would make it wayyy bigger. Would you guys say the weight seems accurate for a fish this big? I caught it here in Florida and I’m from Minnesota so a fish this big to me is insane and I can’t even throw an estimate out there. 8 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 19, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 19, 2021 I’d say that scale was pretty accurate, congratulations!!!! 5 1 Quote
Bubba 460 Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 I'd say the weight is about right. It's a nice sized bass that could go about 12# if she had some weight on her but she's a little on the slim side. Congratulations! 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 19, 2021 Super User Posted March 19, 2021 Congrats on your new PB. Looks like a solid 9lber to me. Trust the scale. I think your rough estimate with the fishing line is off. 2 1 Quote

Jmp_37 Posted March 21, 2021 Author Posted March 21, 2021 I am looking to get a replica made but not knowing length or girth seems to be an issue, when I measured my hand and estimated the length that way it came out to around 25inches, does anyone have any estimates on length for this fish knowing that weight is 9lbs? Otherwise thank you everyone for you’re help! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2021 Even 25x21.5 comes out to over 13 pounds. Without just adding random numbers into a fish calculator until something close to what your fish weighed comes up, it's going to be tough without solid measurements. FWIW, I used the fish calculator here and put in 24"X17" and got 9.6lbs You could always weight something with a known weight with your scale just to make sure it's not off also. I've had one Rapala scale that was wildly inconsistent on weights. I used it to weight 2 of my largest bass I've caught in my home state, both come out to over 8lbs on the fish calculator, but neither were over 8 on the Rapala scale. The tipping point was when I weighed a healthy 18.5" fish on it and it came up to just 2.5lbs. Weighed my 20lb anchor on my johnboat and it came up to just over 11lbs. 1 Quote

Otherwise thank you everyone for you’re help! 24.50"x17.25 equals 9.1 using the universal equation of LxGxG/800. Your fish is 24-25" long well supported by the pictures. So 24.50" is a pretty fair estimate. I have measured enough bass to tell you that the girth of 17.25" is also well supported by my experience & the pictures. If you get a replica made of your trophy using those dimensions you can feel confident that you are not over estimating the actual size. Quote
