No, I'm probably 70/30 baitcaster to spinning tackle. And I don't mean to be "hating on" BFS, it just something that doesn't appeal to me. I always want to target the biggest fish in the water I'm fishing or the species I'm targeting. 1

He seemed unhappy and told me I should have kept that fish since you don't see them very often around there and I said that's because people don't release them...he was even less happy after that statement. I tried Catch and Release bowhunting once. Go figure. The stupid buck wouldn't go back where he came from. Last time I was Mr. Nice Guy! 1 2
Super User ATA Posted March 18, 2021 Super User Posted March 18, 2021 There is few reasons that make anyone go BFS: 1- If you you are not fan of spinning reels(like myself). 2-BFS casting in time, (make more cast vs using spinning). 3-accuracy(BFS casting accurate vs spinning). 4-thats something new and look cool :). Thats why I have 4 BFS set ups, I start that for river routing, but I notice that I catch bass in highly super duper pressured lake when no one is able and that is proven to me.
Bass Rutten Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 BFS is what the human body involuntarily screams out upon seeing the prices... Bull freaking schnickerdoodle!

Totally different, I target on techniques and lure that I wanna use to catch fish. Sometimes small, sometimes big but I use gears that best fit, doesn’t matter spinning or casting, BFS or BSF.
Super User Teal Posted March 18, 2021 Super User Posted March 18, 2021 I realize true bfs, is ultra light and super light tiny lures and so on, but the just presence of this style, has made an impact on the industry and the sport in a good way. Some of may bit be BFS purists...I'm not... but alot of us have benefited from the technology and stuff from it. For example, spinning gear is my go to for lighter baits, but now as the bFS thing becomes more apart of the industry, it has bleed into mainstream stuff.. I own a pixy and an Alphas, and keep them on a ML and a M action rod running 6 and 8 lb floor respectively. Also running weightless small plastics. and super light weights. Kinda like Tom, I am more main stream but I do appreciate the BFS thing. 1
huZZah Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 I’ll never understand why people are bothered by something they’re not into. It’s not hurting you. It’s not costing you. So who cares? 10
Johnbt Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Hooking bass on tiny crappie outfits has been fun for decades. Landing the large ones has proven difficult over the years when they wrap the line around a stump or something. ____________ "A standard NBA basketball has a diameter between 9.43 and 9.51 inches. In the WNBA, the basketball has a diameter of between 9.07 and 9.23 inches. Basketballs used in the NCAA are between 9.39 and 9.55 inches for the men and 9.07 and 9.23 inches for the women."
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 18, 2021 Super User Posted March 18, 2021 I don’t know what BFS is. And girls basketball is fun to watch. Those ladies would own me on the court. Even in my best days. 1

I disagree with both these - my cast-retrieve time with spinning is about the same with either, and my accuracy with spinning is actually better than with BC. It's all about what you grew up with, IMO. 2

ThatZX14Fella Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 To each their own. I prefer sport bikes over cruisers, but I still get why guys like their cruisers. For me, I'd enjoy having both BFS setups and spinning setups. I like having a variety of options. Why limit yourself when you can learn more and ultimately have more techniques? Isn't that why the majority of us enjoy fishing, anyway? Fishing would be pretty boring and unproductive if you never tried new equipment and baits.

Deplorable Fisherman Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 It's just a good excuse to buy more gear. 2
The Bassman Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 I combine BFS with standard tactics. My Shimano Brenious lets me go plenty light with 10-15 lb. braid but fishes like any 30-70 size Shimano. That said I use it just for fun. For me there's no denying that spinning is more versatile. But don't we fish just for fun? I paint to pay the bills. More power to dedicated BFS guys I say. 3
