Growing segment of the market and some pretty pricey equipment being promoted.

So...What's the deal? Is this for guys that have given up? Make little fish fun to catch?

Micro fishing? I think I would rather watch girl's basketball.

Unless my daughter or granddaughters are playing, I don't care for women's sports.

It's a fantastic tool for chasing that elusive 12lb smallmouth on the Tennessee River.

My bass fishing was Jason Lucas* fishing editor for Spirts Afield magazine in the 50’s. Jay was a light bait casting aficionado promoting 6 lb to 10 lb Dacron braid before mono line became popular.

Line stronger the bass weighs is overkill. The only time stronger line is needed is to get the bass out of heavy cover or casting lures that could break the line during the cast.

My 1st bait casting was a Langley 340 Target, 2nd was 330 Lure Cast. Both Langley reel had light weight drilled aluminum spools that held 50 yards of braid. The Target without line guide weighs 4 oz, the Lure Cast with a line guide 4 1/8 oz. Both would be considered BFS today.

I have used 8 to 12 lb mono for all my bass fishing with the. Exception of big Swimbaits and fishing in heavy cover.

I credit Jay for my light line preferences and consider it more sporting.

The giant bass listed were all caught on 10 -12 lb mono line on jigs. Not exactly BFS or finesse, but differently not Bubba.

Tom

*Lucas on Bass is a good read.

Who says it is for smaller fish ? For a change it is fun to finesse the fish out of the heavy cover instead of lugging it out......

Those who don't want to have spinning gear in their arsenal because of the derogatory appellation of 'fairy wand' that BC hard-core aficionados have applied to a totally valid finesse rig.

All I hear when anyone says "fairy wand" is deep insecurity...

Honestly if you're on this forum you dont make sense to 99% of the general population.

BFS guys are no different than the rest of us spending time, money, and energy catching fish in a relatively inefficient manner only to release them.

I just put my fingers in my ears and go "La-la-la-la".

Half my arsenal is spinning rigs.

Gotcha!

"Why would you release a fish anyhow?" I totally understand why so many people think

we're crazy.

I only release fish that aren't of eating size - those that are, 1/2 go into my ice-chest.

Speak for yourself - I'm totally sane (NO, you may NOT ask the wife about that.)

I don't think this bad boy (girl) would have come out of the grass she was buried in.

Nice fish there, Kent...and I think my MH spinning rig could have gotten that beast to the net with a little work.

That fish and everything we landed in Florida was caught on spinning tackle.

I had a guy walk up to me after I caught a decent 3 lber or so bank fishing out of a reservoir in IL. He seemed unhappy and told me I should have kept that fish since you don't see them very often around there and I said that's because people don't release them...he was even less happy after that statement.

I rest my case.

I've said it before - if I had to go one way or the other, I'd pick spinning over BC.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the trend started in Japan with guys modifying their bass tackle to be able to cast tiny baits for trout.
