Should I Try ?

Here's what happened . I take a new $12 bass lure out of box and on the third cast something happened the line snaps and the lure flies over the water and out into a moccasin infested swamp , can't tell how far . I did see some gators in the water earlier. Large rocks border the edge of the lake . I think to myself it might not be to deep into the palmettos , hate not even trying... but after thinking it over those rocks could do a job on the transducer..my question is , have you ever taken a chance and gone ahead and tried a risky retrieval?

Nope, why would I risk doing damage to a $2,300 TM or hull damage for a $12 bait?

It's like guys that jam their rods into the rocks trying to knock a snagged T-rigged worm loose ?‍♂️ Really going to try to damage your rod to save a dollar or two worth of tackle?

 

Does it suck? Yeah, but it can be replaced. I had someone snag a plopper on a fountain once and thought about swimming after it, but after second thought it wasn't that important to me and I had plenty more.

Nope. Hull damage, trolling motor damage, Solix tranducer damage, and  360 damage for a $12 lure. Anyway after you opened the package it was only worth $8.26.

The thought of busting up thousands of dollars worth of equipment to save something I could replace for less than $20 offends me. It hurts my cheapskate heart.

Don't be cheap when it comes to your health or wellbeing. Losing a $12 lure is the cost of doing fishing business.

Nope ~ that's the price of doing business. When I was a "poor" kid I used to swim out into lakes and ponds and retrieve snagged lures but I was 12 with only half a brain and no money. That's why I don't buy $300 swim-baits today. Plenty of good swim-baits for under $30. Have no intention of taking my speedos with me fishing. Taking a chance on banging a boat up for $12... Uh, no.

It would be best to buy a new lure and not worry about getting in the water to get the lure you lost.

So Florida I’m not wading through a swamp for anything.   I’ve seen large gators hiding in plain site lying on the bottom flat in two feet of water.  I was once on top of one in Loxahatchee in three feet of water.  Looked straight down from the deck and it was looking up at me.  Never saw it until the last moment.  Hell NO!

Catt, this is partly why I fish plastic worms, and other plastic baits so much. If I lose one, no big deal

I've gone to great lengths to rescue $4 lures, sometimes just for a laugh, but I wouldn't risk my life, or even worse, cash.

I do a ton of really stupid stuff, especially for a 61 year old. However, I have a hard and fast rule about gators, Crocs, poisonous snakes, etc. Leave to alone! I can buy more $12.00 baits.
