Super User J Francho Posted March 25, 2021 Super User Posted March 25, 2021 I can't really think of anything - baits or gear - that is really actually new. It's all a variation or evolution of what's been done at this point. Plastics, spinners, plugs, topwaters, frogs, and jigs. Most everything fits in those buckets. I feel like I'm already keeping it pretty simple, despite the amount of gear I own and use. 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 29 Super User Posted January 29 A few times last year, I just took two rods with two lures to fish my pond in the evening. I took pliers and my cell phone too, but that was it. For 2025, after trying so many different kinds of tackle boxes, I'm going old school with the one below. It'll be easy to open to dry the lures when I get home and the hard shell will make it waterproof when raining. It has three trays and I'll appreciate the handle when walking through the woods. I came to find the utility trays within a soft tackle box cumbersome and water-trapping. 5 Quote

Am I the only one who feels this way some times? Im in my 20s, i was born in the wrong time. I hate all this tech they keep putting into everything, so ill shun it too. Whats new is junk, there i said it. Lets hop in a DeLorean and go back! I would carry 5-8 rods, and 4-8 3700 sized tackle trays filled with lures, along with 50 bags of soft plastics. This was fishing the bank BTW, not on a boat. 9/10 times i wouldnt even use 80% of what i brought, and at home i have lures i dont even know how to use, in colors im not even sure why i bought. Im going minimalistic from here on out, just a few rod and reels i love paired together, with a select few baits and lures i know i will use. I realized when i did try different things i brought too much of i was way to overwhelmed and would change lures every few minutes to try and "spread the wealth". Hard to learn a new bait or fish one you know with only a few minutes to use it. @Swamp Girli fished out of something like that for years, it was so much easier, simpler, and took way less space. Make sure you throw some desiccant packs in there though. Will make drying and rust prevention much easier. 1 Quote

Backroad Angler Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I still fish still like this for the most part, I take out a couple rods nothing fancy and hit a pond, river, lake whatever it may be and just have a good time. Never really focused too hard on the 100000 different lures, rods out there yet. lol 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 29 Super User Posted January 29 I could get by quite happily with a flippin stick and a heavy moderate moving bait rod. Beaver, worm, bladed jig, spinnerbait, swim jig. 3 Quote
GRiver Posted January 29 Posted January 29 @Swamp Girl the stuff I keep in my truck, is the minimum tackle. A telescopic 6ft, a Zebco omega spincast, a couple of Plano boxes with a hooks and stuff. I keep 5-6 bags of soft bait, a dozen or so hard baits. That really all I need. Now do I want to give up all my tackle and rods and reels….. Oh noooo……. 1 Quote
dytmook Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I fish with at most 3 rods since I'm usually on foot. Anymore because way too cumbersome and last time I did, I lost a set up. I'll only carry 3 when I want to throw a baitcaster on my small water. For baits, I'll have 1 tray of hard baits and I'm trying to reduce that. Soft plastics I'll carry a few seasonal and then my comfort baits of stick worms/flukes etc if things go there. I've done better when I've reduced my options. Quote

Mine is in a landfill somewhere, poured water out of it many times. Granted we get 13 more inches of rain per year than Seattle 1 1 Quote
