Ben77 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Looking for some creature baits or anything else that comes to mind that has good fluttering action while I'm slow rolling or ripping through the bottom. Maybe you guys have ones that work better than others?Primarily to put on swinging jig heads thanks. Quote

river-rat Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 My first choice is a Biffle Bug followed by the Strike King Rage Bug 2 Quote
SproDD79 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 I like the the Big Bite Baits Rojas Fighting Frog. I don't know why they call it a frog , it's more like a craw or creature bait, the appendages have a nice fluttering action, however they don't last past a fish or two. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Dean_Rojas_-_Fighting_Frog/descpage-BBBFF.html 1 Quote
Dens228 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Creature bait wise I go with the Reaction Innovations...... Paddletails are Keitech's but I have recently purchased some Yamamoto swimbaits. Quote
Finessegenics Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Almost any plastic is good on a swinghead. For your description, count in another vote for the Rage Bug. The following are not creature baits per se but I really like the XZone MB finesse craw. The regular size is a little too big of a presentation for me. A Zoom Speed Craw has also done very well for me. 2 Quote
00bullitt Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Hard to beat the Strike King Rage Bug and Zoom Z-Craw. I also like to use a 5" Yamamoto Double Tail Grub and even their 5" Hula Grub, but will use a standard round bend 3/0 hook and use the Strike King or Mustad Tungsten clip on football head weights. 2 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted March 16, 2021 Super User Posted March 16, 2021 I have had really good luck with the Menace on a swing head. I have had some success as well with the Rage bug on a slider head, just never tried it on a swinghead. Two other baits that have been very good to me, never tried on a swing head either, are the Arsenal Assault bug and Gambler ugly otter. The ugly otter has produced on days when the menace wasn't getting a lot of looks, so it must be different enough, maybe more subtle since it doesn't have the flange on the tails for more kick like the menace, structure bug, and assault bug.. 1 Quote

Thanks in advance! The two baits that address and satisfy my desires/needs for the local Brown Bass population are the RPE Tackle Tungsten Swinging Football Jig and the Freedom Tackle Stealth Swim Jig. The RPE rig is Tungsten, comes without a hook, can be purchased in bulk, and possesses a unique and very secure hook hanging system. I use the ½ & ¾ oz only here and I do add a #2 Owner Oval Split Ring to the front (line tie) of this rig to prevent the tungsten head from moving forward and wearing away at the knot (a simple & effective fix). https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/RPE_Tackle_Tungsten_Swinging_Football_Jig_No_Hook_/descpage-RPEFJ.html The Freedom Tackle product is offered & sold as a complete bait. And while I do retain the hook & quality skirt that comes with the bait to use in different applications, for my swinghead fishing applications, I am just using the head. And what a killer head it is ! Available in different weights, the ½ & ¾ oz are lead and the ¼ oz offering is plastic – all have a very stout hook hanger. Haven’t had one fail yet. This head design fishes much different than the football head. It’s much more of a swimming, almost gliding action across & along the bottom; rather than bouncing & digging into it like the tungsten head will do. Superior for shallower & light weed areas. HUGE Fan of this one ! https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Freedom_Tackle_Stealth_Swim_Jigs/descpage-FREESSW.html More swinghead info here ~ https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/211811-brown-bass-tools-~-questions-answers/?do=findComment&comment=2467689 A-Jay 3 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Check out Samatis baits! Their crawmatis is a killer bait. Small company from Massachusetts. They look so good on a t-rig, weightless swimming up to, chatterbait, jig trailer, they are awesome 1 Quote

Would you agree that the freedom tackle stealth swim jig would be better for paddle tails and swim baits and the rpe swinging football jig head would be better for creature baits and worms? 1 Quote

Not really - I would agree that where I am presenting the Bait determines which head I choose. Deep, steeper and or harder bottoms, I go with the RPE Tungsten. Shallower, slower sloping and or softer bottoms; especially with soft cover, I'm choosing the Lead New Freedom Head. Just about any trailer will play nice with either head, but we all have our favorites. Hope that helps. A-Jay 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 17, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 17, 2021 Rage Menace or Bug are both really good. A brush hog or baby brush hog are good as well as a Gene Larew HooDaddy. 1 Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted March 18, 2021 Super User Posted March 18, 2021 I really like Biffle Bugs and Hammer Craws but if money and supply were no object I would use the Dolive Beaver Creature more often. The action is really something else IMO. 1 Quote
