Too long and uncomfortable, not to mention I hate foam. Wish they would've just went with a simple reel seat like on the Mojo Bass. This is the only thing that has me hesitating until I get a chance to physically hold one in person. Long handles are the bane of my existence (although not as bad on spinning as casting). When I saw SC making a big deal about how these rods are better balanced than previous lines, I wondered if they had achieved this in part by lengthening the handle section. Quote

It does balance slightly better than a Mojo Bass in my opinion. I'm not a rod builder, but couldn't they achieve the same thing with a shorter handle and just add a little bit of weight to it? Quote

The few Dobbyns rods I've worked on had a chunk of metal in the butt. Quote

Really impressed with the weight, especially for a sub $200 rod. I have 2 rods lighter and one the same weight, but there's more than $200 in parts alone in each one of those. I really wish these blanks were available, I'm sure I could build a sub 2.5oz rod the this model. I think there's a typo on the rod specs though. There's no way this rod is rated for 20-lb line That does seem odd for a ML to be rated up to 20lb line? Usually more around 12/14. Quote
Allen Der Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 20lb braid seems an appropriate max for that rod. I doubt anyone would try 20lb mono on a ML Quote

Like you said though, nobody should be buying a ML rod to use it with 20lb mono anyways. Quote

St Croix's 6'9 and now the 6'10 MLXF rating has been 6-10# for the last 17 years. I see no reason for them to double it now. 1 Quote

Not sure if their web site updates inventory in real time? Just had a chat with TW and they said their website is updated in real time, so if it is showing in stock then you can grab one and it looks like all the first release models are still in their inventory. That's not always the case with TW. I ordered a Metanium while it showed a stock of 4 on a Saturday, and got the backorder notice on Monday. I did order two victory rods the first morning listed at 4:30am Eastern from TW before going to work. We'll see if I get another backorder notice today. Quote

Matt Eisen Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Speaking of specs, why do you guys think that the 7'3" Heavy XF & 7'2" MH Moderate Victories are only rated to 7/8ths of an ounce? That seems like such an odd number... is that something to be concerned about? Quote

Some of the casting models are rated up to 65lbs. so it looks like they are combining the mono and braid ratings. 31 minutes ago, Matt Eisen said: Speaking of specs, why do you guys think that the 7'3" Heavy XF & 7'2" MH Moderate Victories are only rated to 7/8ths of an ounce? I'm hearing from people that got their rods last week that the power ratings on these are much different than the traditional st croix ratings. H is more like the old MH and MH is more like old M. Okay thank you all for helping me make my decision Quote
CrankFate Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 I was an anti St Croix guy for a long time. But the last 10-15 years saw them greatly improve, IMO. Nice to finally see a rod that considers balance. 1 Quote
