So I ordered a the new megabass levante 7'2 perfect pitch rod the other day . I'm still waiting to get it in but I'm also looking for a new reel to go with it. I'd like to spend 200 dollars or under. But I'm having a hard time picking a reel. I like shimano , daiwa and 13 fishing reels. But would be open to any reel ideas.

At $200 currado k.

I was looking at the curado k but was not sure . I know everyone loves them but I just want to make sure.

On a 7’-2” heavy for 3/8+ baits. I don’t think there’s anything not to like.

You make a good point. Lol what gear ratio would you suggest

Get a 19 Scorpion MGL.    ?? or a Tatula Elite.

And congrats on the pitch perfect.

I also vote curado K for that rod. It’ll easily handle jigs, what I assume is what it is planned to be used for.

I would say you’d be good with a 7 or 8 gear ratio. I tend to lean towards the 7, but the 8 if your tying to reel a fish at the end of a long cast in a hurry.

Yeah I'm going to use if for a dedicated jig rod . So that's sounds great to me . What about the slx mgl any thoughts on those

Personally I would go with the mgl spool if your goal is to either get away with throwing lighter jigs like 1/4 or 5/16, or to cut the cost of the reel.

I think it’d be redundant for the former considering the rod, but for the latter the mgl spool should cast very easily. I run a curado mgl on a Dobyns Sierra 703c for senkos and finesse swimbaits and it’s butter, it casts like a dream for me. I also have the chronarch mgl coming in soon for more line capacity. So that might be something else to consider is if you’re trying to maximize your distance, you’ll be better off with curado k and the 200 size spool. If distance isn’t an issue try out the Slx mgl.

But overall, I like the curado K for that specific rod (pitch perfect). If the Orochi xx ever restocks, I plan to try and get the Tour Versatile for sparse cover jigging, on that rod I would probably go with curado mgl or chronarch mgl.

I’m planning on pairing a levante with a curado BFS, besides being only 6.2oz & BFS, the colors all match perfectly. Reel is $189.00, you might even be able to get a reasonable DIY spool somewhere if you need more line capacity.

Another vote for the Scorpion MGL. I wasn't sure the color would look good on my levante, but it looks awesome.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but better than posting a new one, I guess?

I recently bought a Levante Perfect Pitch over the Inter-Net, and now that it's in-hand I can't help but feel that it's tip-heavy. I did a few searches and this doesn't seem to be the prevalent opinion. Have Exprides and Loomises ruined me? Do I need to quit worrying about how they feel at the house and concentrate more about the feel on the water? Or should I give a friend a good deal on this new rod and look elsewhere? ?

What reel did you put on it?

It has sort of become a cliche with..... "I bought this "Insert Brand" X-fast Heavy Pitching rod and it feels tip heavy."

Most pitching rods will feel tip heavy if you put a light weight reel (7oz or less) on them. Most are designed to be sort of stiff to begin with.  Then when you add maybe a 3/4oz jig with trailer, it will really feel tip heavy.  I guess for me it's just a personal feel that I am use to but getting the right reel on a heavy rod can be a challenge.

Your question implies that the rod has something to do with what reel to get.  Not so, get the best reel you can afford, and it will work with any rod.  It is my opinion that the more you pay , the better the reel., but I'm sure I will get objectors.

I love my Daiwa Tatulas SC3 TC.

Sorry- I tried it with an SLX MGL and SLX DC. I haven't even run line through the guides. This is just a first impression. The best basis of comparison I have is my Dobyns DC705c. It's two inches shorter, but similar in power. It feels much more balanced.

The Orochi XX would probably be a closer peer based on my other rods, so that's got to be part of it. And I'm not well-versed in longer and heavier rods in general. I will probably fish this one for a bit and then find a new home for it if it doesn't stick around. But from past experience I know I've gone from "what am I going to use this for?" to "I'm never getting rid of this rod."

edit: it also just hit me that the handle of the perfect pitch is relatively short

No need to be sorry. I just hear and see it a lot with Heavy rods used for flippin and pitchin.

Like I said, it's a challenge to get the proper balance and feel for a big rod.  After fishing one all day, it can be tiresome if it doesn't feel just right to you but sometimes you have to make do with what you have and adapt as far as the rod and reel are concerned.

To give an example of a tip heavy rod with an odd reel..... I have a St. Croix Premier 7' H Fast which is quite tip heavy.  When I first got it, I paired it with an older Metanium MG7 and it wasn't bad but it felt off.  So I tried it with a Curado DC which is about 2oz heavier. It improved the overall feel of the rods balance. Again, this is just personal preference but I like to find the sweet spot for my set ups.

I would have tried a rod balancer

I have tried them in the past on the first St. Croix Avid I had.  It was series that had the big hump near the reel seat.   I also had a rod (can't remember who made it) that had the brass coins in the bottom of the rod.  Neither really did it for me.

I think I have reached a point were I am lucky enough to have several rods and reels to choose from that I can mix and match with what rod I want to use.  This way I can get that "just the way I like it feel" with both rod and reel.  For example, the new BB1 you sent me the great price on is paired with a Levante Jerkbait Special and it has that WOW factor when combined together.  I tried a few other reels but this match does it for me.  On other end of things, I tried the BB1 on my Megabass P5 Super Destroyer and it didn't feel right.

With rods today and technology there is no excuse for really tip heavy rods.
