Derek1 Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Anybody grab one yet. Watched the hookup tackle video on the new release of them. They seem pretty sweet for the money. This rod seems perfect to fill a hole in my arsenal. Want it for my bigger 1/2 ounce jigs and swim jigs. Bigger spinnerbaits and 6 inch mag drafts and the larger paddle tails. Would love to hear any first hand thoughts on them. I understand it just came out and time with them would be limited. Thanks. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted March 15, 2021 Super User Posted March 15, 2021 Its a nice rod, I had the Orochi version. Just be careful not to overload the rod because of the XF tip. I threw a 3/4 oz jig w/trailer and the tip snapped despite being rated to 1.2 ounces. Honestly would prefer they make the rod fast action, but the extra sensitivity of XF is nice at times although possibly a little brittle if pushed to its limits. 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 I believe the new levante has a very soft tip going to a firm mid section. From the video I watched. Quote

Set the hook on a 3/4 oz jig and about a foot of the tip of the rod broke off .. I didn’t like this at all. I have other rods that has never had this issue Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 15, 2021 Super User Posted March 15, 2021 There are to many other options without the failure rate for the same or less money, that said the flat side special and spinning rods rods are pretty durable Quote
Bass Rutten Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 I owned the orochi version as well. One thing I wish I knew before I bought it was that the handle is very, very short (levante may be different?), this makes it efficient only at pitching (hence the name I suppose), standard two handed casting is not fun or comfortable. I would only purchase again for the single purpose of pitching to targets, it doesn't much else very well due to the handle. Quote
Derek1 Posted March 15, 2021 Author Posted March 15, 2021 Well this rained on my parade. Even though you guys are talking about a different line up. Being a new design I still might go for it. Thanks for the info guys. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 15, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 15, 2021 My new Tatula with the XF rating also has a narrow tip section as does my older Smoke that is my dedicated punch stick. Most all do. Mike Quote
RichF Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 17% off at Kittery Trading Post with code LUCKY! Pretty sure they have the Perfect Pitches in stock. FWIW, in my experience, extra fast tips can be a little volatile. I've snapped a few (all different brands). I picked up a new Braillist and it looks and feels great. I have faith that the new Levantes will be great. Quote
Derek1 Posted March 16, 2021 Author Posted March 16, 2021 The vid from hookup tackle says it’s more of a regular taper from Megabass. He bends and talks about how soft the tip is. Making it rather versatile. Definitely not trying to argue with you guys that had this model and n other line. I have no experience with any of them. Wonder if it was something that was addressed during the new design process. 10 hours ago, FryDog62 said: Its a nice rod, I had the Orochi version. I was thinking the shorter handle might be better for that. Again thanks for all the help and info. Definitely making me think hard about it. Quote
Bakablo1 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 The Levante lineup was redesigned from the ground up to fix the issue they had with the 2019s (and even then the breakage issue was a very small percentage). I'd feel confident knowing that they made sure to get this one right. I recently purchased a the Levante tour versitale (I like the 7ft for jigs) and it looks/feels awesome 1 Quote

Dens228 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 My first MegaBass rod was a Levante. It broke during their recall and the place I bought it gave me a great upgrade deal on the OrochiXX since they had no idea how long I'd be waiting for a Levante replacement. Best and worst thing to happen to me. I now have nine OrochiXX's...........so in the long run the great replacement deal made that business a lot of money off of me! 2 Quote

Not going to lie, that’s a concern of mine also. Not so much it breaking. But wanting 9 Megabass rods after. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 16, 2021 Super User Posted March 16, 2021 Not the PP, but I recently got the Levante Jerkbait rod.. no issues so far... but given that the 2019 levante had issues, I'm kinda babying it. Quote
