Super User Bankc Posted March 17, 2021 Super User Posted March 17, 2021 Rod length matters for me in presentations where I'm working the bait with a downward snapping motion, like on a walking or popping topwater lure, or flipping and pitching. And here your height matters less than how high your boat sits off the water. Sure, you can get away with a longer rod, but it's less comfortable for me. So if I'm buying a rod specifically for those techniques, I'll make sure it's not too long. Quote

I also prefer a shorter rod for vertical presentations, since you gain nothing with length. Otherwise, I'm 5-7 and most of my rods are at least 7', if not closer to 8'. I could be 4' tall, and fish with the same rods. I might need a bit shorter rod for the downward twitch presentation, though. 1 hour ago, Bankc said: Rod length matters for me in presentations where I'm working the bait with a downward snapping motion, like on a walking or popping topwater lure Same boat here...almost. I am 6'7" and for my jerkbait, popping, walking I use a much shorter rod than the rest of mine. Still a 6'9" rod, but this is the one where if I were shorter I would shorten it. The rest depend solely on the bait and cover I am fishing. Quote
