For our new members, when the Dogwood Trees bloom the bass are on their beds.

 

Don't' get the Dogwoods confused with the Cherry Blossoms. Cherry Blossoms usually bloom first but they are no match for the Dogwoods.

 

Dogwoods have either white or pink flowers, as shown below.

 

So keep an eye on any Dogwoods in your geographical area and you will know when they bloom the bass are on their beds.

Here in the western part of VA, we're behind where we were last year at this time......blooms and water temps.

 

Been catching big females full of eggs but not on beds yet.

we had that crazy warm spell that made everything start blooming then nights have been below freezing to put everything back to sleep.  I am hoping to get out this weekend though so I can see what's going on as it has been way too long for me since I have wet a line.

We have your weather 1-2 days earlier and obviously a tad warmer. We had the same thing happen but this tree bloomed overnight , maybe because it was pouring rain this morning. I cut the grass (onions) yesterday evening and it wasn’t bloomed out

guys in my neighborhood that are all grass crazy have been cutting it here for a month.....i haven't even thought about it yet.  Might be because I know I have two lawnmowers that aren't working and I gotta get a new one.

Yup, same here in MD.  Checked the local ponds the past 2 days and I've seen a couple small bass but no real action shallow.

Mine finally blossomed over this past weekend and is now in full bloom.

 

The bass are officially on their beds in Virginia!

Ours are bloomed and some have leaves, bass spawning is behind as always 

 

we still have to go thru dogwood winter, blackberry winter, all those other winters people make up

I caught my first post spawn female last week, a big headed almost 4 lber on a crappie swimbait, the majority are still pre, but that's gonna change soon, 83 yesterday, 87 today...

We don’t have any swamp water that sits still and warms quickly, most of it is coming from the bottom of 200 ft dams or off of 5-7k foot tall mtns . There are a couple free stone streams smallies have started but main flow is still cold. White bass and skipjack just now starting, black bass are usually more may/June

ive had BR members from Michigan, Massachusetts, PA, etc post higher water temps than me in spring every year. In 2019 and 2020 (flood years), we had 61 degree water in downtown Knox on Memorial Day

Oh, yeah, for sure, most of our lakes and ponds are natural shallow dark bottomed, so water warms up quick, and the spawn usually sneaks up on folks.

That's what I expect and tried to get ahead of it some this year.  I went out last night and either my main producing pond has been wrecked by the farmer ripping stuff out or the bass are still deep.  I was hoping to catch some that are moving up but it was so bad I left early which has never happened.  Got me worried.
