Super User Spankey Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 I use it on both. Throw the buzzbaits in there also. Not huge trailers because my baits are on the smaller side. But I scale them pretty well. I will sometimes use trailer hooks on spinnerbaits. Quote
Derek1 Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 When the mood arises. This is a clear water killer. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 I use trailers on jigs all the time. Most of the time I don't use one with a spinnerbait. I use a trailer hook on a spinnerbait if I get bites, but don't hook up. I don't use a trailer hook if I am getting snagged. If I am getting snagged and missing strikes, I try a different lure. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 13, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 13, 2021 Always a plastic trailer on a jig. Only a trailer hook on spinner. Mike Quote
Johnbt Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 99.5% of the time I use a trailer on a spinnerbait. Usually a curl tail grub of 3" to 6" and sometimes a paddle tail or plain fish tail looking thing. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 Trailer on a jig is a must 100% of the time for me. Spinnerbaits its situational...usually in dirty water ill use one. Normally just a white or chartreuse zoom split tail. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 Yep split tail. I pour them to match the bait. 5 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 Need and want are 2 different things: Do I need a trailer for a spinnerbait or jig....no Do I want a trailer for a spinnerbait...no Do I want a trailer for a jig...yes 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 ive never used a trailer on a spinnerbait. On any kind of jig i do. Quote
Dens228 Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I think a jig works more often.......but I like both Quote
BlakeMolone Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I usually don’t but I’ve discovered a 4 inch easy shiner lols great on a spinnerbait and it’s a really thin profile that doesn’t ever cause the bait to run on it’s side, plus it gives the spinnerbait a bit of scent Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 I sort of prefer a trailer on a spinnerbait but I've caught plenty of bass without one. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted March 13, 2021 Super User Posted March 13, 2021 Never used a trailer on a spinnerbait. That said I did pick up some yum pulse jrs during the off season to use on swim jigs and I may try it on a spinnerbait. The main reason I don’t want to try is when I have had spinnerbaits with the extra long tails I found I got a lot of tugs but not hookups. Once I Cut the long tails off the skirts I caught more fish. Guessing I may run into the same issue with a trailer where they strike the tail of the trailer and not the hook. Quote
huZZah Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I never used one before I saw someone else doing it. Now I almost always use one. I don’t use one when pulling through thick grass. It just kinda makes it harder and I don’t really think it’s helps much since you’re already shaking the grass. At night I always have a bulky trailer with 2 Colorado blades. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted March 14, 2021 Super User Posted March 14, 2021 I use a trailer on a jig but not on a spinnerbait. I won't even use a trailer hook on a spinnerbait. Quote
detroit1 Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Your "poll" choices do not match the question of: do you need a trailer for a spinnerbait? My vote is no. ⏮️ 1 Quote
Biglittle8 Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Spinnerbait... Sometimes. Jig.... always! 1 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Always trailer on a jig. I have the most success using any where from 3-6 inch curly tail jigs on spinner baits. However, I do have some z-man razor Shad In bound. Orginally, I had intended those for swim baits and chatter baits but, after seeing some pics in this thread with razor Shad on spinner baits. Might give that combo a try ive never had success with boot tailed swim baits on spinner baits though Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Always on a jig, but one with less action in cold water. With a spinnerbait, I'll use a 4in. or 5in. Calin's Lunker grub until the bass spawn. They not only add bulk, but allow you to work it slower and that's a big plus in cold water especially when throwing willow blades. After the spawn, if I use one, it's a twin tail (straight), or none. I'll add a trailer hook if I'm targeting off shore structure, but if there's cover other than rocks, I nix the trailer hook. Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 14, 2021 Super User Posted March 14, 2021 Caught many, many fish on spinnerbaits, none of which had a trailer on it. Jigs 99.99% of the time, I use a trailer. Quote

It's a balancing act of course between spinnerbait weight , blade size and trailer style /length/ weight . Quote
