I’m wondering, since this reel has digital control for casting, will the internal battery ever die? I’m not familiar on how this reel is since I reckon it needs a battery for the digital control to work. Do you have to change the batter eventually?

Or if I don’t use the reel for say a few months, will the battery stop working?

So it doesn’t need recharging? I guess I’m old school.

Similar to a generator - the spinning of the spool with a minor magnet produces the minute amount of power needed to run the board...so self generated.

"The Digital Control system is a waterproof, self-energizing system which is computer chip-controlled. It recharges with each cast and needs no battery or power source. During the initial moments of the cast, the energy generated by the rotation of the spool is stored in the Digital Control circuit board and powers the Digital Braking System on subsequent casts."

So if I don’t use the reel for months the digital control will still work? I have many reels and try to rotate through them during the year. The generator will always work even if it’s not been used for months?

Transplanted Midwesterner, thank you for your answer and link provided.

"Kicker" - yes...I mean they sit for months in the boxes and still work. Self-generated power means they'll work no matter how long they sit...long as the circuit board doesn't deteriorate anyway.

Sure does work after sitting for long time. There is no stored power.

Even when using on the water, there is no stored power. It's self powered for

every cast. Power generation occurs at the earliest portion of the cast.

Thank you for the replies! I went ahead and ordered the Curado DC.

That's why you have to be a bit more careful the first cast in the morning.  It might be out of energy and need more thumb.  After that, it's all good.

I think you will like it.  My daughter got me one for Father’s Day.  I liked it well enough to get a second one.  They are my designated spinnerbait reels.

I just got a Curado DC150 and DC151.  I have been practicing my casting and really like them.

I picked up mine from BPS yesterday. Spooling it up today with 40lb Power Pro and doing casting maiden voyage next week.
