If you can find one, I'd suggest this. I've been loving mine as a cheap option. It also feels like a legitimate upgrade over the regular president. It seems to have some negative reviews, but I have nothing but praise for it. The size 30 president XT is a whole ounce lighter than the 30 president.

BPS still has the XT-LE on sale for $50

At that price range a diawa exceler is hard to beat.

Always been a shimano guy, but open to other options. What are you guys using at this price point?

Diawa BP

Daiwa Fuego LT is pretty decent and can regularly be found for under MSRP.

If you are willing to spend about $20 more and you could get a Shimano Spheros SW 3000 it is essentially a Stradic FK with some of the bearings replaced with bushings. Still a smooth reel with a nice drag.

Last weekend I recently purchased a 2500 Daiwa Exceler, $80 as well as a 2000 Daiwa Revros, $50. They both 'seem' quite nice so far. I'll report back in a few weeks after some catches?

Big fan of Shimano as well. I've got a 1000 Sienna, $30, A 2000 Sedona, $65ish, and a 2500 Nasci, $100. All three have been great.

I've been using the Daiwa Revros reels for a few years now and really been impressed with them. They've beaten out the Pflueger President as the best bargain priced spinning reel in my lineup and have been replacing them as the old blue reels have been dying off.

I've got a Daiwa Eliminator that I like a lot too if you want something a little more refined.

I have a Shimano Sienna 2500, and Daiwa Revros LT2000 and LT2500. The Sienna is nice for a $ reel but the Revros are IMO truly nice reels for the money. I think I paid $49.00 for each. Smooth, quiet, nice drag and looks good as well. I’ve caught a few 4-5 lb bass on them with zero issues.

One of the finest moments for my first gen of Revros ? I was in a multispecies kayak tournament that every species of fish I could catch counted, total overall length won one division, most species won the other. This guy was worth his length in dollar bills.

You cannot go wrong with Daiwa. I have a Regal LT and the Fuego LT and they are true work horses for $100 or less range. Had an older Revros that took on many fish and I ended up giving it to my son who still uses it and it's as smooth as the day I got it.

My friend was die hard Abu guy...I bought him an Exceler LT for his bday and he loved it so much he went out and bought two Fuego LTs.

I got my Daiwa BG for less than $100.  Don't know if you still can find them in that range right now with the way everything is going, but they are great reels.  My brother-in-law is still using the Revros I got him for his birthday about 4 years ago.  He gets to fish a lot more than I do since he lives in Florida.

one thing, you didn't mention a capacity.

In this price range, Tica Libra SX is my go-to reel.  Tica goes back to 1961, they build all of Daiwa's big surf reels, random other Daiwa models, and Daiwa has borrowed a lot from them.

They're workhorse reels built to outlast every Shimano, with sealed roller-bearing selective A/R, a better line roller and comparable line management in their improved version of locomotive drive.

If there's a problem, it's that TicaAmerica only imports the small 1500 size (comparable to a 2000 Shimano) and the large 3000 size (comparable to Shimano 5000).

Tica sells on Amazon, and if you keep up, may catch a Libra SX at loss-leader half-price - I've bought two of mine that way.

If you're looking for a line capacity in between the two Libra, don't care for Libra's low gearing, the worm-drive Tica Samira 2000H fits there, and 6.2 gearing.

If you're sticking with Shimano, the Spheros is a huge step up from the Nasci for not much more. You upgrade to a threaded handle and a metal frame and worm gear.

Question for you, when I search up Tica on Amazon is their a “store/seller” to look for or does Tica sell direct on Amazon.

I buy a few parts from TicaAmerica (spare spools), and they tell me Amazon stocks their own store - they'll show up on Amazon if you search Tica Libra SX or Tica Samira X-treme.

Thanks Bulldog seeing your pics and upgrades they are sharp looking reels. But it’s your opinion and hands on knowledge that’s got me thinking I could use an upgrade.

here's what I did with mine - I already had the long Daiwa handle, and it was a perfect match with the tall gears.

Required an IOS hex shaft adapter (best price on custom parts at Fishingshop.kiki in Tokyo), and found the Ulucus Daiwa-copy knob at half-price closeout.  I did this when I was ordering a few parts batches to customize a buddy's four reels.

The reel was also one of the $50 Amazon loss-leaders, so I had room to play.

up front about Tica, their bronze gears need run-in, and they'll feel stiff until you line them.

In that price range you can look at Piscifun Carbon X I’ve responded to another post with this same information but I’ll say it again, I have 2 bought last season so I cannot speak for longevity but I’m pleased so far with mine and when you sign up for their newsletter you get an additional 15% off. Also for what it’s worth their supposedly built on the Daiwa Tatula LT frame. Not sure it’s true but that’s what google search says.

Why didn't you but the Stradic I posted?  It's gone, but that was a great deal in your

price range and a significantly better reel.

Anyhow, good luck with your new reel.

Didn’t want used and I believe it was a 1000

Late I know but better than never. For less than your price range at $59.99 the Lew’s Speed Spin has been my favorite spinning reel for awhile.

The graphite frame is strong but light. It has a screw in handle instead of the knob tightening kind I have come to dislike. 10 bearing drive and a thick bail wire.
