No, I've caught some on them already. The suspending Ima to be exact.

That doesn't count...if its suspending its just an odd shaped jerk bait!

Not a lipless, but I've caught them on blade baits when there was still ice on the water.

Regular ones work too. Ripping them off the bottom is a good way to catch big fish early in the year, even right after ice out. The colder the water, the softer and shorter the rips.

I'm sure that would work I've just never really tried it. Maybe I should give it a shot.

You really should, I like the 2tap, and so do the fish. 47572212-10212936569275243-1970816511945736192-o.jpg

College of Bass KVD talks about throwing Redeye Shads after ice out.

I've caught more bass on the gold/black CC Super Spot than anything else this calendar year. The runner-up has been the black/blue T rigged craw.

I enjoy reading posts from Northern fisherman. Living in Florida all my life, I have never had to contend with "ice  outs" or lake turnover.  To us, a thermocline is a thermos after a visit to the dentist.  Here in the South, there is no bad time to throw a lipless crankbait. It's one of the most effective search baits ever made. They shine in really tough conditions.  So many times I came to the weigh-in with a limit of small fish only to be beaten by someone who caught an "out of the blue" big fish chunking a Rattle Trap. ?

The ice just cleared here within the last two days.   I'm going out Saturday and have these in my "short list" box under my kayak seat.....

Squarebill

Flatsided crank

Lipless

I'll probably have a lipless and a flatside on rods when I hit the water and will follow my gut as well as water clarity.  I have confidence in both at the moment.

Reel it so slowly that you can't feel the vibration of it when the water is below 50 degrees. As the temp increases, obviously, you can reel faster. I caught some fish in Jab-Feb reeling it so slowly, it was probably just dragging bottom. The big deep diving Shad Rap is a good one for cold water as well. It will dive on a very slow retrieve. I like the lipless better because the water is always muddy in winter here and they can hear it coming. You basically have to put it in their mouths because they won't be chasing it.

I would try them. Especially an overcast day with some chop on the water. I use 1/4 oz Rattletraps

Ain't nothing wrong with that. I've caught 5 bass since ice out...all of them combined wouldn't equal that one in size.
