Picked up 3 new rods.. I think may want to swap 2 reels out what I put them on .

So Dobyns Champ Xp 736c and Dobyns Kaden 745c.

Curado Dc and Daiwa Elite(long cast).
Which reel would you put on each rod. They r both 8 speeds.

I’m thinking the 736 better off with the Dc with a lot more pitching heavier cover and light punching  and the Elite on the 745 as that rod will have more long cast usage.

This exercise can be really mind numbing for me.  I start at the bare minimum, and that's simply how the combo feels.  Then casting and retrieving.  The last thing I think about are specs to consider, like drag and retrieve ratio.  Feel is most important to me.

I’ve used both reels extensively,, yes maybe over thinking but my mind is telling me the dc should go on the 736 due to it does very well for in flipping/ pitching where as the Daiwa elite is really  made for casting not that I Can’t dial up the brakes if need be.

I try not to let any bias creep in before settling on a combo for some purpose.  Sometimes the purpose changes, other times the combo changes.  I'd include line in that formula as well.  I NEVER get it right the first time, or for what I intended the gear to do.  This is how I ended up with a frog rod that was north of $1000, lol.

Ahhh, the beauty of having all the same reels but in different gear ratios.......

I over analyze so this removes me doing that from the equation.  LOL

Isn’t the purpose of DC braking to minimize backlash on long casts? Pitching requires little if any braking.

There are a lot of guys that use the Dc's for other than just long cast... skipping. I use a Dc or Sv for that cauese I still suck at it

Asking this question is akin to you asking someone else about how much milk to put into your coffee, but even more complicated and personal. It goes way beyond preference. Strength, size, hand size, limb length, mechanics, etc,... everyone is different.

Lol, No asking this question is called just asking a opinion and yup everyone is different that's why we are all here.. well most of us.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't suggesting that you shouldn't have asked, or implying that your question was stupid. It's just one that's difficult to get a meaningful answer to. I'll add that for me it's rare when the reel I hope to like on a particular rod beforehand is the one that ends up there. More often than not it's an unexpected combination that I find to be special, or just right.

Thanks for that - glad I'm not the only one!  The beauty of this situation is I often still have to buy another reel. :D

Yeah I understand that, When you haven't been out fishing since fall and your messing with gear all winter or staring at it "for me" it's hey which reel would you put on this rod to get other thoughts is all. Thankfully I can finally get out tomorrow
