Floridabassking352 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 How many of you have ever used someone else's tackle before? I did this weekend and I have to say I'm superstitious. I feel like I can only catch fish on my gear. I was in Land O' Lakes and actually bought some lures cuz I didn't like the ones my uncle had. I caught fish of course, although I already had that tackle. How many of you are superstitious about your tackle? Also, I did catch one bass on my uncle's little swimbait that I've never used before (now I will buy some of them). Quote
CJ Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 What you said pretty much sums it up.I am always willing to try something different.Anytime I go to BPS or out of town to another bait shop,I make it a point to buy something new.The more confidence lures you aquire, the better angler you will become once you have learned how and when to apply them. Siebert Outdoors Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I usually throw someone elses tackle when I fish with them just to try the rods and reels if I've never used it. Especially if its something I might buy. I also do it to be evil and try and catch a fish one it. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 31, 2007 Super User Posted July 31, 2007 Ok you start off by saying other people's tackle but from what I read you are talking about baits/lures; if this is in fact the case then I don't mind. If you are talking about Rod-&-Reels then I do care; my Rod-&-Reels are carefully selected and balanced to fit my fishing style. If I have the slightest inclination that an opportunity to fish araises I bring my Rod-&-Reels. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 31, 2007 Super User Posted July 31, 2007 Crap always happens to other people 's tackle when they are in your hands reason why I don 't borrow from others. Soft plastic baits could be an exception, but it 's difficult that I 'm not carrying some sort of plastic bait they are biting on. Quote
Pond-Pro Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I dont like when other people use my tackle, so i dont use theirs. Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I can remember one instance, i was fishing and i was on my 5th fish, my partner was getting skunked. After tying on a new spinnerbait, and being frustrated, i couldnt help but notice that this particular person never fished a spinnerbait. They asked how to do it, and i decided to show them. I casted their spinnerbait out, and caught a bass on the first cast with their setup. It was quite fun. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 31, 2007 Super User Posted July 31, 2007 I don't like to use other people's tackle, especially crankbaits. I am always afraid that I'll hang one up and lose it. Quote
armesjr Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 It is situational. Personally i don't use other peoples tackle, because i don't like it when they use mine. When i go fishing with friends that fish a lot, i really don't like letting them use my equipment. Fishing lures get expensive. Sure a soft plastic ranges 30-70 cents a piece, but that adds up over the course of the day. The other day the fish were just crushing my Fat Ikas, and so one of my friends asks to borrow some and ends up going through like 5 of them. Thats like 3.50, down the drain. However If i take friends that are less experienced and don't generally fish a lot, i have no problem letting them use my lures and equipment. I just want to make sure they have fun and enjoy themselves. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted July 31, 2007 Super User Posted July 31, 2007 When someone else is in my boat with me. I always tell them that they are welcom to try any tackle in the boat. I never have had a problem with that. Quote

Amen,Fluke! I rarely use other people's tackle.Mainly because I have to much of my own. When I invite someone to fish with me they are welcome to any of my tackle. To me,fishing is about fun more than anything.I would hate to see someone have a bad time because I didn't share a lure with them. Quote
cdabelow Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I have no problem sharing my tackle. I someone is out with me and I find something that is working I will share, but I do expect the same like wise. Everything on my boat is typically fair game. However I really dont like sharing my rods. I have some older equipment that is still in good shape that I break out if I know I will be fishing with someonw that doesnt have much equipment. Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 31, 2007 Super User Posted July 31, 2007 Don't get me wrong I don't mind sharing baits/lures you just aint touching my rod-n-reels Last time I did that I ended up with a G. Loomis BCR804 GLX 6' 8 that is now about 6' 3 and useless Quote

If your a real good buddy I will loan it to you. That is a very very select few. Quote
RWHusker. Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 It never fails when its time to share because the fish are crushing a certain bait or color, I only have 3 left and forced with the dilema of sharing. Never the oher way around and its something I have 20 of and would gladly share. But even with 3 I would give one and have 2 left. I'll never forget a guy named Mike Picou down on Lake Fork throwing 2 packages of flukes in our boat when we were clueless. And now it's my turn to "pay if forward". GO BIG RED Quote
frogtog Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 When you are in my boat, whats mine is yours. There is nothing no better than a good day on the water. Every thing in the boat can be replaced. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I have been using other people's tackle for a few weeks now. My stock was stolen last week. Today I was on Craig's boat from Ericcsons's tackle, if I needed it, he had it. Stratosdadri has made me up a box of all kinds of good stuff that I don't normally use. I am looking to widen my horizon's (not by choice, lol) using some of these baits. I fished a crankbait last night and did ok. Having no tackle is a drag for sure. Quote

Sorry, I should have clarified that in my post. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 if were in my boat whats mine is yours and whats yours is . well i probably got it already ;D Quote

In the last few years, I have "never" fished with anyone that did not use my tackle. They may start with theirs,, but end up finishing the day with mine. Even when I'm bank fishing with total strangers. All of them end up taking my stuff home on the end of their rods Quote
Taliesin Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Hmm... I'm one of the middle-of-the-road people. If you are a fisherman, and have your own gear, I might loan a lure or two, but no rods-and-reels (unless things like theft or vandalism occur). I do have some gear (mostly catfishing) that is just for loaning out. I tend to take some of my friends out that haven't fished in years or never fished. They don't have tackle, so I offer to let them use mine. However, baitcasters are never loaned out. I don't have any spincasters, so they get to use (and maybe learn) spinning reels. Quote
