Welcome to BR! I use Major Craft Iovino Splash-It rod. 6’8” Med. Fast, 1/4-1/2 oz NAC-T681M/SI. Great top water rod and utility you rod for various lures. $130

Tom

PS, price isn’t a factor for me performance is. I sold over 30 rods and reels last year and kept 5, this rod is 1 of them.

Suggest Sunline Defier Armillo 11 lb Nylon line with 6.3:1 baitcast reel.

I learned to walk the dog on a 7'0" rod.  After a while I started using a 6'6".  Much easier for me to work a spook with the shorter rod.

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well. I decided to stop ghosting around after lurking this website for about a year now. Can anyone recommend me a specific rod for walking the dog? I'm throwing only 1/2 and prefer a Medium casting. Thanks and sorry if I missed something, this is one of my first posts.

I use the same 6'7 and 7'1 M F rods that I throw my 3/8-5/8 JBs on.  A lot of people like XF, but prefer a F.  A rod with a little tip helps to keep the trebles pinned.  The fish dont feel the resistance as fast either IMO.  I like the actions of SC and 13.

If you are fishing from an elevated bass boat deck then you could use a 7' M/F or M/XF rod  for working top water baits . If not , then a rod in that 5'6" to 6'8" M/F or M/XF rod will allow you to work the top water lure without slapping the rod tip in the water . True , a longer rod can be worked to the side more however you will also move he top water lure faster out of the strike zone as well with the longer rod . Your height also plays an important role in choosing rod length as the taller you are with longer legs - the longer top water rod you will be able to employ . I use a All - Star 6'3" M/F bait cast rod , 7:1 Daiwa Fuego reel , Power Pro #30 lb. Hi-Viz Yellow Braid with a Big Game #12 lb. to #15 lb. mono leader (depending on size of the top water lure I am using) for poppers and spooks ... I Hope this helps - good luck !
