Hello all, I'm getting back into fishing and planning on picking up a few of these rods for travel since I no longer have access to a truck, and like the videos/reviews I've seen so far for these rods. As for background, I grew up using spinning tackle, and have yet to transition to bait caster models, but would like at least one. These would be mainly land fishing with the occasional boat trip. Areas of usage will be mostly the Vegas area, but will include Utah, Michigan, and Florida ( Assuming I can get these on a plane ).

TLDR;
If anyone has experience with these models in particular, or would just like to weigh in, I'd appreciate help picking out 2-3 to cover my bases for the following species. Before you recommend other rods that are more reasonably priced, I like the styling of the JDM rods, and it is not really a concern. I do however need the rod to be 3-4 pieces for travel which limits my options to the Valkyrie/Triza lines for the most part.

Species:

  • Bluegill/Crappie
  • Rainbow/Brown Trout
  • Tilapia
  • Smallmouth Bass
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Striped Bass

Models : (* not yet available US)

Casting:

  • F0-63XTZ Aello.........            Length: 6'3" Action: Slow....... Lure Capa: 1/32 - 3/16oz Line Cap: 2 - 7lb
  • F2-66XTZ Sparna.......          Length: 6'6" Action: MF.........   Lure Capa: 1/8 - 1/2oz Line Cap: 6 - 12lb
  • F3-67XTZ Grils..........            Length: 6'8" Action: MF.........   Lure Capa: 1/4 - 5/8oz Line Cap: 6 - 14lb
  • F4-69XTZ Thunderbird       Length: 6'9" Action: Reg........ Lure Capa: 1/4 - 3/4oz Line Cap: 8 - 20lb
  • F5-70XTZ StymPalides        Length: 7'0" Action: MF..........  Lure Capa: 3/8 - 1oz Line Cap: 10 - 25lb
  • F7-72XTZ Dragoon*....        Length: 7'2" Action: Reg/Fast tip Lure Capa: 1/2 - 3oz Line Cap: 12 - 30lb

Spinning:

  • F0-68XSTZ Hibali......           Length: 6'8" Action:  Fast....... Lure Capa: 1/32 - 1/8oz Line Cap: 2 - 7lb
  • F1-66XSTZ Yamasemi*       Length: 6'6" Action:  Fast/XF Solid Tip Lure Capa: 1/32 - 1/8oz Line Cap: 3 - 8lb
  • F2-70XSTZ Lopros.....          Length: 7'0" Action:  MF.......... Lure Capa: 1/32 - 1/4oz Line Cap: 3 - 10lb
  • F3-72XSTZ Ageha*....          Length: 7'2" Action:  MF.......... Lure Capa: 1/16 - 1/2oz Line Cap: 3 - 10lb

Models Considering:
Spinning:

  • Hibali ( In stock, and hopefully similar to performance of Aello)
  • Lopros (Saw this one and was impressed)

Casting:

  • Aello ( Well reviewed for bfs)
  • Grils  ( Saw a video of this performing fairly well, though a little more flex than I'd like)
  • StymPalides

Any and all opinions are welcome. I can afford at most 3 for now, and already have a Stradic FL 1000 / Stradic FL 2500 for pairing with any of the spinning rods. Not sure what I'll pick up for the bait caster(s) but we have a stimulus check headed our way ;).

Thanks for your time!

Just got off the phone with Ben at thehookuptackle and he put me onto the lopros / grils for now for my current needs/plans. Going to learn how to use a bait caster, and then pick up a Dragoon/Stympalides later on as I throw more reaction baits than anything when I'm not on a boat.

As for the Dragoon, he was telling me it may make it to America around June (hopefully).

Hey Winston!

glad you posted, I am shopping as well, thinking about the heavier rods now. What has your experience been with your rods so far?

Hello there Calvin. I only managed to get out onto the water a few times these past months, but got to put in some work with the lopros. It doesn't handle lures on the lighter end as well as I'd hoped, won't really throw anything under an 1/8 oz or so comfortably, and even when paired with stradic 1000/2500 fl's the cast distance wasn't great with tatsu fluorocarbon unfortunately. I've reeled in probably 100 rainbows in the 1/4 - 1 lb range in that time and I'd say it's definitely overpowered for that application. I do like the rod however. Beautiful craftmanship,  and very light. I think I just need to play to it's strengths more as I was testing with less-dense lures with line that was too heavy. Actually considering picking up the Yamasemi which is an F1 with swappable tips, or an F0 as I heard the Aello is pretty great and spinning rods generally have a little more flex than casting rods.

If you would like to go heavier, I have not purchased the dragoon yet, and have not been able to find much feedback, but Megabass released their World Expedition models. Ben at theHookupTackle was raving about several of their models and the 4 piece rods actually break down to shorter than the triza's. I would consider going that route. I was actually planning on picking up the 7'11'' casting model but most of them are currently out of stock.

Hope that helps!

Does anyone else have these rods? I’m looking into the Ageha but I haven’t been able to find much outside of a few videos from Ben at The Hook Up Tackle talking about them and would like some more user experience.

gah..I am hoping to get one soon.  I want to fly with a travel rod as carry on.  my days of long rod tubes (as checked luggage) are behind me.  the Ageha, and the Stym Palides should cover all my needs.  I hope.

I do wish I could find more real world experience/reviews besides the ones put out by the guys hawking the stuff.

my uses are Oklahoma Stripers and Hybrid bass.  my trip to visit my buddy in Cambodia, and even the Amazon River..  my airplane trips.  stuff I am not driving to.

I have the Hibali. It's nice enough but I can't say I'm super impressed with it.

If you're looking at Megabass Travel Rods, I have to recommend the Valkyrie World Expedition.

The sensitivity for being a partially glass rod is outstanding, no dead/flat spots, and the durability has been great thus far.

Are there dead spots in the Triza?

I’m looking for a travel finesse/dropshot rod for Great Lake smallmouth fishing since bringing full sized higher end rods with little kids in the car has been stressful.

No, it's just not any more sensitive than rods costing half the amount. It's a good rod, but would I buy it again for over $300? Meh.

I'd give this consideration https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_3286&products_id=16993
