Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 Trilene XL up to 10 . 12 and up , big game. Very rarely have one break off. I was a Stren man for many years. Just too many breaks. . Used P line for awhile. Strong, but way too kinky. Then it was yozuri hybrid. Great at first, then it seemed each time I re- lined , I got more breaks. Finally very satisfied with Berkely lines. Quote
huZZah Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 Berkley Big game 12 and 15#. Have used it forever. 1 Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 Berkley Sensation BTW... there is no such animal as "original Stren". The Stren label was sold to Berkley/Pure Fishing years ago and has been manufactured in the Berkley plant since. The line formula was never sold so "Stren" line has been whatever Pure Fishing line engineers have said it should be. oe 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 Big game, sunline super naural, sunline armillo If you are going cheap, go big game, if it doesn't matter, go SUNLINE MONO Quote
dam0007 Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 Love Sunline Super Natural but abrasion resistance isn’t the strongest attribute... Ordered some Machinegun Cast and Bass Special 4.0 (which looks like super nat, hope not) looking forward to trying both. Defier (not Armilo) is the bees knees but it’s insanely priced. Sufix Siege and Advanced are good. Quote

I definitely don't know the backstory, and I can understand that Berkley changed the manufacturing, but formulations are about like KFC's herb and spice blend. If you ain't selling chicken they ain't worth much. Any patents they had would have long since expired. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Big game for baitcaster and trilene xl for spinning . Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted March 9, 2021 Super User Posted March 9, 2021 14 lb Stren Original on conventional topwater baits and P-Line CXX 20, 25, and 30 on my big swimbait setups. I will substitute the CXX with Big Game bought locally if I failed to order the CXX before I run low(rare). Quote
txchaser Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Best budget line, tough as nails, tie off to the cleat strong - Big Game. Best mono - Sunline Defier Armilo, mostly reserved for bigger swimbaits. But I like Sufix Advance for general use better than either. It's goofy strong like big game, but the braid fibers in the formula make it low stretch compared to other mono. It is very noticable. Oh and it doesn't float as much as regular mono, and seems to be a little more sensitive. Can't explain why. IMO they'd sell more of it if they tripled the price, it's inexpensive enough to get ignored in a sea of random mono line. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 9, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2021 Big Game, but I'm trying the new Sufix Advance and it seems like pretty nice line. Memory is worse than Big Game, but it's extremely strong so far too. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 9, 2021 Super User Posted March 9, 2021 Big Game #12 lb. ~ #15 lb. Sufix Siege #14 lb. ~ #17 lb. Quote
matbellon3 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Sunline Super Natural has been my go to for awhile for the few techniques that I use mono as my mainline on a casting reel. Though when Suffix Advance came out I picked up a few spools to try out and have found that I prefer it for all my needs because it also works well as leader material. With the Suffix Advance I have found that its best to shop by your preferred diameter not pound test. 1 Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Maxima Ultragreen. I've been using it for a couple of decades now. I've tried others but keep going back, old faithful never lets me down. Quote
Guitarfish Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I use Maxima Chameleon for fresh and Big game for salt. 30+ years like red. Quote
N.Y. Yankee Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Until recently, I used nothing but Berkley XL and Original Stren. Caught lots of fish and did not have line problems unless I overfilled the reel. Mono works on everything and you don't need to worry about knots slipping if you tie them right. I always liked XL the most but was surprised at the durability of Stren 8 pound when I tried to break some off once. Either is good, affordable and is in every store you would look in. Now, I'm only using mono for leaders, but still the same stuff. 1 Quote
Kdizzle Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I like Berkeley Trilene Sensation and Yo Zuri Hybrid. Quote

I'm thinking of trying one of the Suffix lines. (I hope my 3lb spool of BG doesn't see this) 1 Quote
