Fred Allen Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 How is this line? I got a roll of 7000 yards for only a few dollars at walmart and spooled it on my spinning reel for fishing. Will it handle bass and crappies and stuff like that ok? Just maybe fishing with Ned or Senko. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Posted March 7, 2021 7,000 yards for a few bucks, must be great stuff. 2 Quote

huZZah Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 I have omniflex in 6 and 10 lb. You get what you pay for, but since it’s mostly for my kids, you can’t beat it. I don’t even blink when I have to cut 20 yards of tangled nest off after my 7 yr olds first cast of the day. I’ve respooled his reel 2 times now. And don’t really care cause it’s omniflex. It has bad memory, but it holds up. I use the 6lb for my panfish rod and I’ve caught a couple almost 1# bass by “mistake.” It’s fine. Don’t expect great, but it’s fine. Quote
Super User Teal Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Posted March 7, 2021 I have spool of it and it use it as backing only. 1 Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 After experience with this, you'll appreciate better mono lines. Karl 1 Quote
ironbjorn Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 You're about to spend half your fishing time cussing. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Posted March 7, 2021 I didn’t think they made it anymore. When I started fishing I used it. It dries out fast. I was constantly changing line out during the season. If you don’t mind stripping half your spool and replacing line after every 2 or 3 outings, then score! That 7,000 yds will get you through a couple 3 seasons. Quote
Mbirdsley Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 I use it for backing to fill up half of my spool. Than a put good line on the other half. That’s about all I would use zebco, eagle claw, and any other cheap 550 yard Wally World $1.99 line for. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Posted March 7, 2021 Zebco Omniflex and Abu Bonnyl are among the thickest nylon monos for pound-test. They do this on purpose to help spincast reel line pick-up release the line to cast. Both monos are about the same diameter as Berkley Big Game. If you try a thin line (e.g., fluorocarbon or copolymer) on your spincast reel, you'll discover the line pick-up won't release the thin line to cast unless you "double-button" - push the button, grab the line outside the reel, release the button, then push the button again - this time it will cast. 2 Quote
Born 2 fish Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Just use Berkeley big game if you want a cheap line that is decent. 2 Quote

I never knew this. Thanks for explaining. I have a few spincast reels for when nieces and nephews visit. Anyone have recommendations for mono line brand for spincast reels in the 4 to 10lb range? 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Posted March 7, 2021 Duh? What is this thread about? Walmart has 700 yards of #4 form $1.74. Pay up a little for#6, $1.97. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Zebco-Omniflex-Monofilament-Fishing-Line-6-Pound-Tested/16777058 Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 I used it all the time fishing farm ponds growing up when all I used was Shakespeare spinning gear from Walmart. Caught thousands of bass up to 8 lbs on it, including the one in my profile picture. Broke off a few times but can’t say it would have been less with any other line. Quote
Fred Allen Posted March 7, 2021 Author Posted March 7, 2021 OH my mistake it is 700 yards not 7000! So basically its pretty crappy from comments here. I will give it a try a few times anyway. I will end up using it as backing as recommended here. Thank! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 Well, for the price I'm surprised they sell it at all. Quote

I remember that Shakespeare had the line...no pun intended. Couldn't tell you when Zebco got it. Coincidently, does anyone know what Zebco stands for? 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 @Jigfishn10 Zero Hour Bomb Company and Shakespeare are now the same company - both PureFishing. In 2014, Zebco was a still separate company, but had already acquired both Lew's and Martin then. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Posted March 8, 2021 Shakespeare is part of Pure Fishing, but Zebco is not. https://about.purefishing.com/our-brands/ Zebco is part of Rather Outdoors. https://www.ratheroutdoors.com/en/our-brands 3 Quote
