Looking to get a pair of polarized shades before spring rolls around here in MA. I have no idea what color lenses to go with though? I'm not someone who is going to buy multiple pairs to have 1 for each situation, so my question is what is the best all around lens? The two that seem to be mentioned the most are grey and amber, but I've read green as well. I'm just really not sure what to go with.

This is something I've looked up several times now, but could never really get a specific answer. So I decided to ask you guys.

If you have recommendations for glasses under $80, I would appreciate that as well.

Let me know if there's any information about my fishing that would help.

Thanks!

I have a couple pairs of strike king glasses and a couple pairs of shady rays glasses. Both polarized. Both work well enough for me. I like the green and amber lenses the best for both brands. The shady rays ( can get them for around $50) are comfortable and have a great warranty, but the strike king ones look better and are pretty cheap(maybe $20 a pair).

Copper/Amber .  Costas green mirror lens has a copper base.

For under $80 look at Nines.  Pretty sure you can find a discount code.  You can get Costa 580p models in the low $100’s.  I would save up a little extra and get the Costas.  I own both the Nines and Costas.

Here are the deals today on polarized at Steep and Cheap. Deals change often so you have to check back.

A lens with an amber base and a green mirror is probably the best you can get for a fishing lens.

I prefer amber.

I had a pair of typhoon mariners a few years back that I liked a lot.  I think they were around $75.

I have a pair of Costas now.  I like them a lot.

In another thread someone posted a color chart of the ideal color lens for each condition. Whoever that was, that would be beneficial to post here again...

If at all possible, go to basspro or any other costa dealer and try on several styles. Take note of a few styles that you like and don't bleed any ambient light. Then begin searching online for those styles. You can often find Costas for $99-120. I know this is above your budget but this is one area I firmly believe is worth the cost.

I strongly believe copper/amber green mirrored to be the best all around option for fishing (and in general). For me, the grey is only a little better in 100% direct sunlight and worse in all other conditions (cloudy, shady, early/late in the day).

Again, I apologize for giving advice outside your budget, but it is the best advice I can give based on my experiences.

Gray in the sunlight and amber for low light conditions.  Spend more money on the gray then just buy a cheap pair of amber ones.

I appreciate all the replies guys, wasn't expecting so many that quick lol

I think I'll look around for a pair of green mirror costas as close as I can get to my budget. If I can't find anything close enough I'll probably go for an amber or copper. Maybe 2 cheaper pairs to try grey as well.

Everyone has opinions. And this is the reason I think I like my brown copper lenses the most. Because they work in the sun and enhance when clouds roll in. They have a tendency to brighten things up. But this is just my opinion and the reason for brown lenses and like you I don’t want 5 pair.
