I’ve got a dobyns fury 733c (7’3 H) I use to flip and I love it to death. I was thinking about getting a 703SF (medium fast 7’0) and trying it out. But I wanted to hear you guys opinions first. I’m willing to expand it doesn’t just have to be a dobyns just and rod that’s great for spinnerbaits.

Following I need a new spinnerbait rod as well I’ve been using a tatula elite 7’3 mh multi purpose and I don’t like it. I mainly throw 1/2 oz spinnerbaits

733C is a MHF.  703SF is a MF.  I would only use the 703SF for light wire spinnerbaits.  Personally I feel a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait requires a MH at the least.  A 1/2 oz. War Eagle I weighed was .82 oz.  Add a trailer and you can easily be over 1 oz.

A 1/2 oz. Strike King Thunder Cricket weighed .62 oz.  MH would be fine, but that 703SF would be pushing it.

Born 2 fish, what didn't you like about the Elite?  Maybe a 7'2" MHR Tatula?

OP I would suggest looking for a MH spinning rod if spinning is what you want to use.

I wouldn't use a Med rod for a single hook bait like a spinner.

I use a MegaBass OrochiXX SpecR and love it.  I use the same rod for swim jigs, chatterbaits, underspins..

I just feel the elite rod doesn’t have the back bone I prefer for single hook baits. Definitely doesn’t feel like a true mh rod to me.

I throw spinner baits on a Fury 703c and a Fury 734c depending on the size and trailer.

@new2BC4bass sorry I was wrong. Thanks for the input. Do they make a mh xtra fast? And if so do you believe that would be any good? Thanks

Not that I am aware of in the Fury.  The Ark Tharp Hammer is a 7' MH Ex-Fast.  Go to the Tacklewarehouse site and click on "show information".  I don't have this particular rod, but do have a couple others.

Since you are using a Fury, I am not going to mention rods that cost twice as much.....or more.  However, the Spec R is a very nice rod.  Or for less the ALX Deputy.  Sorry. Couldn't help myself.  :teeth:

I've never touched an Elite.  I only have the OG Tatulas.  I thought maybe you might want something with a little less powerful tip (but still with some power).  I've always used a Fast action rod, but am coming to like the Daiwa Regular action rods.  I have no idea how the base Tatula compares to the Elite.  Hopefully someone with actual on the water experience will be along to offer an opinion.

The 704C or 734C would be what you want for spinnerbaits. It's listed as a H/F, but it's really a MH/F by other manufacturer's standards. The 703C is pretty good for light spinnerbaits (up to 3/8oz) but the 704C/734C is better for 3/8oz and up.

Don't know much about Dobyns rods but I prefer a 7'1" MH for 1/2oz and 7'3" MH for 3/4oz spinnerbaits.  The shorter rod has a little less power and loads better with the lighter bait.   20 lb line on both for me.
