It really depends on how much I'm willing to spend. I splurged on a pair of Costas glass green mirror about eight years ago and they're still my favorites, but my vision has gone south recently and I opted for a pair of polarized that fit over my Rx glasses. I think I paid like $39 for them.

Just for sunglasses, I like amber Calcuttas. They're good enough for someone to steal them, thinking they're high dollar. But they're cheap enough you can just go get another pair without waiting for payday if someone does steal them. You can tell someone swiped mine once. But I need readers now. So I bought a pair of Orvis amber polarized glasses with 1.5X readers. That's usually what I wear when I'm fishing unless I forget them. It's either take the Orvis or take readers along for knots, clips, etc.

I am an Oakley guy normally, but UA has a few fishing sets that are not bad, and are half the price of Oakley etc.

I am going to play with lens color this year to see if there is a difference. I have only used blue.

I wear Oakley because they were the only large framed polarized I could find and more importantly try on. They're Oakley Tens, which have long since been discontinued. I can't complain, they've been good glasses for ten years and I wear them daily.

This is me too. Wish I would have bought a pair sooner than a year ago.

I like them so much I’m considering adding a pair with blue mirror as well.

Been using Maui Jim's for the last 8 years, yup the same pair. Well worth the cost imho.

I have to wear corrective lenses (most of my life). I get brown polarized progressives in Columbia frames. That seem to be the ticket for me. They work great for sporting clays also.

Wish I was lucky like y’all. A lot of options for you guys.

Same here! Bought a pair last summer, blue mirror glass. Love them so much I bought a second pair just to leave in the boat, and have my other ones in the truck for driving. So much clearer then any cheap plastic ones I’ve had in the past, kicking myself for not getting some earlier.

I used to wear glasses and then contacts for about 15 years. In 2006 I fixed that problem permanently with laser corrective surgery. The only side affect is perfect vision all the time.

Costas’s all day. I’m getting a second pair in June for $60. Couldn’t pass them up.

I’m glad that worked out for you. I have not brought that up to optometrist and she has never ran it past me. Not sure how good of a candidate I am. I’ll ask. Thanks.

Some people don’t mind wearing glasses or contacts. That’s perfectly fine. I hated both but I hated wearing glasses even worse. I played contact sports when I was younger and glasses were not an option. Wedging contacts into my eyes at 4am before a long day of hunting started to get old too. Laser eye surgery isn’t for everyone but I would highly suggest it as an option if available. When I got it in 2006, it was still a relatively new expensive technology. It’s less costly now, safer, and easier. Some insurance covers it too. Worth looking into Spankey.

Perhaps your optometrist has not brought it up because it would reduce business generated from you.

I like Oakley Batwolf. Stupid name, but I like how easy it is to change/replace the lenses. The polarization is really good. The main thing for me is how big they are and how much light they block on the sides.

I also really like the couple airs of Ike glasses I picked up at Walmart a few years ago. The polarization is pretty darn good and the lens is a brown/amber. Really good for sight fishing.

I have a pair of Native's that no matter how bad I mishandled them, the lenses WILL NOT SCRATCH. I mean just when I think I put them through the ringer in a day of bad weather and clumsiness and just take some lens cleaner and they look brand new.

Got a pair of Costas last summer I spent nearly twice as much on and the left lens is already scratched and I can't remember how it could have possibly happened because I take such good care of them...

When you purchase a high end pair of sunglasses, you know you're getting a quality product.  But, if you know what you're looking for, you can still get a pair of sunglasses that are on par with any other brand, for a tiny fraction of the price that you'd pay for name brand ones.  Because the truth is, there's no technology, processing, or material involved in the production of sunglasses (excluding some precious metals, or rare woods) that warrants the high prices many brands charge.  You're paying for the name and maybe some styling cues.  There are only a small handful of manufacturers out there of name brand sunglasses, and they sell them under hundreds of brand names.  They've essentially created the market for high end glasses by providing multiple brands at similar price points, leading you to assume that there are different tiers of sunglasses.  However, in reality, they're all pretty much the same.

So if you want to buy name brand sunglasses, then go for it.  They're usually more stylish than the cheap ones, and it's not like you need a loan to buy brand name sunglasses.  And they have talented fashion designers on staff that the cheap brands don't, so you do get something for you money.  But don't assume you're getting a product that will function better or last longer.

I'll pay $50 at most for fishing glasses.  Too easy to lose a good pair.  For driving I'll go for the nicer ones.  The ones I currently use are a pair of Shady Rays on my boat, I think I got a toofer deal on two pair for like $50 around Christmas a couple years ago.  If I'm kayaking I'll take a pair of my FishGillz since they float.

The shady rays are a good, less expensive alternative.  My wife got the BOGO deal they had last year on those.  Their warranty is really nice and free shipping.

How are you doing that for so cheap? Is that when they have a big sale?

I have both Oakley’s and a pair of Costas, so I think I’ve got bright sunny and low light/overcast days covered. The Oakley’s sport Revant Elite polarized replacement lenses.
*Last fall I got hit in the eye by a bug/bee while driving the boat out fishing. It wasn’t until later that I discovered the damage to my three week old lenses, which did their job in protecting my eyes. I contacted Revant, explained the circumstances and in a couple of days I had a new set lenses.
