I wanna what everyone thinks the most versatile rod length is and if a 6’11” rod is noticeably inferior to that rod length. Thanks in advance.

It depends entirely on what you think. Just get a rod and go see what happens for you with that rod and then go on from there. There is no perfect length for a fishing rod. 6'11" is fine. Don't over think this.

I don't like 6'6"- 6'9" MH rods, but had no problem buying a 6'10" MH Tatula.  Probably shouldn't admit this, but I think it is all in my head.  When I went to baitcasting gear, several of my first rods were 6'6".  I soon came to prefer 7' or longer.  The 6'6" rods pretty much sat.  Then I picked up a 6'6" MLM Aetos based on the opinion of a fellow bassresourcer.  Love that rod!  Now I plan on taking those 6'6" rods out more often.

I have two 6'10" HF rods that I really enjoy fishing with plus a couple others of the same length.  Two of my Smallmouth rods are that length and a pleasure to use.  OP: Your rod is in no way inferior.  Enjoy it.

Use to fish a 6'6 back in the day but once I tried a 7'0 there was no looking back!

I heard KVD say a few years back if he had to use only one rod a 6’10” was most versatile. It seems rods continue to get longer, so 6’11” is probably about perfect now ;)

If we mean versatile for “all” conditions, then I would say 6’6” to give you a chance in close quarters when room is tight or a dock rail is in the way and you’re trying to underhand cast (essentially a pitch) or trying to work a jerk bait. A 6’6” rod to me just feels nicer in hand for jerk baits when working the rod to impart life but I won’t hesitate to use a longer rod.

I like personally 7’ but any rod in my hand is better than none. ?

6’6” is my go-to. From my days of having one rod that was...6’6”.

Gonna be different for everyone lol.

All of my go to rods are 6'10" - 7'3".  I have shorter and longer, but the ~7' rods get the most use by far.

I think it depends upon your height and whether you fish standing in a boat, sitting in a kayak, or standing on the bank.

For example, I'm only 5' 7" and if I'm on shore or at the end of the dock pitching under docks I prefer a 6' 6" rod. In fact, and short, precise target casting I prefer that rod. But for most of my other fishing I prefer a 7' rod.

But if I was limited to just one I'd pick the 6' 6". That's a recent change because I used to prefer the 7 footer.
