Any opinions on the Minn Kota Fortrex?

My Maxxum 74 is officially dead and I'm looking at a new TM.

I'm looking at the Maxxum 80 w/BG and Fortrex 80 w/BG and US2.

Just wondering if the features of the Fortrex are worth the added $147 and was hoping someone here might own a Fortrex.

I don't own either. From the specs, if both of your choices have the universal sonar, the Fortrex has more shaft length choices in the universal sonar models. It has a stronger/quieter mount, has lift assist, and has a quick detach motor feature. Sounds like a lot of good stuff for $147 extra.

The lift assist alone is worth at least $147.

Maxxum or Maxxum Pro?

And I have used a couple of Fortex's. Both are really loud and squeaky in my opinion. But still better than any Motor Guide when it comes to cutting through grass. I still like the Maxxum Pro's best.

I just purchased this unit (45" shaft) and have only used it three times, so can't give you an answer based on a long history, but am very happy with the Fortrex so far.

Above @30% on the digital control and the unit is a little louder than I would like is my only complaint. Deploying and stowing is easier with this unit than anything I've ever used and power consumption is far less. The mount is very quiet and removing the entire unit from the base is very simple.

I have a Lowrance HDS-5X on the bow, and it works great with the US2. It is great not having to worry about knocking the transducer off or pinching wires in the mount. The cost of replacing a failed transducer will be more but I guess that is the chance you take.

Good luck. PM me if you have any questions.
