It seems these new OG Slim cranks are real hot right now. Just the next thing on the block or is there some new about this that makes it so popular?

Two words...

Ott Defoe ?

Will check back in when I finally get to take mine swimming this weekend ?

East Tennessee is loaded with Balsa flatside crankbait makers. They have always been popular there and I guess having Ott DeFoe's name on one makes sense for Rapala.

Over here we have a pretty small window where they will bite one but on the Tennessee river system they throw them a ton.

A lot of hype gets fishermen pretty worked up about new baits. I got a few, they work but haven't been any special.

Well I did not throw it as much as I would like because of water conditions, but one thing that stood out to me right away is I did not realize how heavy they felt when casting and coming thru the water.

I ordered three back awhile ago but have not received them yet. They’ll come. Being the Rapala fanboy and user I am I thought I’d try a few for different water conditions. My expectations are that I think they will work. Rapalas flat out work for me. But I’ll never put them on any pedestal until we try. If they are half as good as a DT Series I’ll be happy. But I understand it’s a different bait with a different action. My pattern choices should work fine.

They look a lot like the DT flat to me, just with a more conventional lip shape instead of a coffin lip.

My understanding is “conventional wisdom” is flat sided cranks are well suited to colder water time periods but I hadn’t read that yet and caught bass on DT flats in the heat of a Georgia summer

Purely out of curiosity where are you hearing/seeing the hype - on the water at your marina?

There's been a lot of hype online about them. Guys were paying upwards of $30 a bait for them for a minute. Ott was pushing them pretty heavy and doing well in some tournaments with them, so that was a big part of it too.

Wow!

seems crazy since they are on sale a lot of places - but maybe supply is limited.

Berkley has done a great job promoting the Frittside and their sponsored pros have been promoting it heavily on BASS last season and this one.

I found it interesting that Rapala stressed the old DT flat was designed by or inspired by David Fritts too.  The cranking master.

And the Speed Trap has quietly caught fish for over thirty years.?

Yep.. And the Flat A..

I still throw the bomber flat A and the DT flats. I should have enough to last me for a good while.

I do wish bomber would come out with some new colors in the flat A.  Would like to see a sexy shad and chart.sexy shad pattern.
