I like that idea. Can still be defeated but would make a racket and probably cause the thief to give up or choose another poor sap to screw over

Yup, both are locked - always. I also remove the pin to the swing-away tongue.  Got a prop lock too.

Where and how you park can be huge too.  Backing into a tight spot with no side access is always a great idea

Mine are locked. Haven't had anyone mess with it yet that I know of, but I did have grimy fingerprints on my windows I left cracked at the ramp one day when it was really hot outside. Assuming they tried to force my windows down to get inside. Thought about driving it to work with them on there to see if anyone at the crime lab wanted to lift the prints and see if they could get a hit on them, but there wasn't really any crime committed other than making my blood boil.

That makes me wonder: what would a person do if their trailer was stolen? That sounds like a headache worse than I'm comprehending.

Lot of good answers and solutions on this thread, but this was the one question I really couldn't answer when I started it.  What would I do if I came back to the landing after a few hours of fishing, and my trailer was GONE?  That is something I have never dealt with and the thought of it happening overwhelms me.

 

I'm going with a simple lock on the coupler/hitch combo.  Like others have mentioned, if someone comes along with the right tools and motivation, they'll still get my trailer but at least it offers "some" protection and peace of mind.

At that point you’re going to need to find a trailer quickly or somewhere to tie your boat up for a day or three

I should have clarified, my boat gets moored for the season, so my trailer sits in my yard empty and locked. 

After the season the boat gets winterized and wrapped and sits in my yard locked.

The lock is on the trailer while towing.

I only lock mine in the winter if I go to a seldom used ramp.  Other times I back the trailer into a spot until my tires are tight against the concrete barrier at the end of that spot.  My trailer is a heavy tandem. Good luck getting it out and away from the truck.

I remove the pin in the storage lot where I keep my boat. Never thought to remove it at the ramp. Good idea! as long as you remember to put it back.

I went with Bolt brand locks. Check out YouTube on videos of guys snapping locks off with a pipe. That will give you some idea of who to go with and just how quick it is to bust one. I figure make mine a wee bit harder to take. For your yard parking check out https://www.provenlocks.com. I don’t have one but you would have to really want a trailer.

Hitch and receiver locked at all times. But it's just to prevent ease of thievery. I've got a good friend that can silently pick a pad or pin style lock in under a minute with a kit he bought online. He picked my front door bolt lock and handle lock in under 2 minutes.

I know right. My front door in under 2 minutes really bothered my wife. So I picked up a door handle jam bar. Stolen trailer would be aggravating but it's insured and replaceable. A wife that never complains no matter how long or often you fish is much more difficult to replace.?
