Do you leave your electronics connected while trailering?  Do you disconnect them and lock them up when your boat is tied up at a dock for the night?

Posted

I would always lock mine up if I am camping out or something, and leaving the boat out all night.

I ride with mine connected from the lake back to the house, and then it goes locked up in the garage. I have never had a problem back and forth to the lake.

If the boat isn’t in my garage or traveling down the road on the trailer there locked up. When traveling where I know I’ll be stopping at a hotel everything is in a tote and brought into the room. That includes all electronics, rods/reels, tackle. Pain in the butt. But a lot better than being visited by some Thief. I know everything is covered by insurance but when 100’s if not 1000 miles from home I don’t need the headache.

I take mine off after I pull the boat out of the water. If I'm fishing away from home they stay in the truck. I keep the boat covered, no garage, so they stay in my fishing room til next trip. I've trailered with em on but after the money I've spent on these new ones I don't take any chances with debri or anything damaging them on the road.

I do the same. I’m not taking a chance at kicking up a rock or anything else and smashing a screen.

Mine only come off if they have to be sent in for repairs.  I carry full replacement non deductible theft and vandalism insurance.

Mine are flush mounted at the bow & console so . . . . .

But it's cool because I'm a day tripper . . . . .

This is me too. I have covers for mine when driving down the road too so the angle and covers make it impossible for debris to cause damage.

When at home, the boat is in the garage so the units also remain there. I didn’t travel with my boat at all last year over night but in the past I put the cover on it. Since mine are flush mounted, it would be quite difficult and more time consuming to steal.

My parents have locks for theirs. I bought them as a gift several years ago. I’ve seen some pros use these locks too.

I have storage box mine stay in a compartment that can be locked. I put them on just before I put the boat in the water and take them off right after I bring it out. The boat stays in the garage but I store them in the house during the winter.

If it's not in my shop at night they come off.  Other than that they stay on the boat all the time.

Graphs are only on the boat when the boat is in the water.

Never. mine are mounted in the dash and flush mounted at the bow.

while not impossible to steal, it would take a few minutes. plus If it is not in the garage I am usually in the boat

Mine come off pretty much anytime the boat is not in the water. No need to subject them to the extra vibration of trailering, the risk of them getting stolen while stopping or who knows what debris may float down the road.

I keep them all locked up in a Plano gun case which sits in the back seat of my truck locked and out of sight for brief stops or goes inside with me when stopped for the night somewhere.

I leave my boat in the water all summer and remove the one with the waypoints, console, when I'm not fishing.  I figure no one wants an old unit that's on the bow.

I always I’m hook the fish finders when I’m at home and put it in the consoles.  I just figure I paid a lot of money for them why am I going to leave them in the elements.  Sometimes I may hook everything up the night before a trip.

Than it Depends on where I’m going.  If I am going straight to the launch and say the launch is only 20-30 minutes away I leave them hooked up.  If I am going a couple of hours away and I know I might need to make a stop I unhook and lock up.

or if I’m launching in down town saginaw to launch on he river  I always unhook and lock up

Mine come off easy enough so I always take them off after the boat is out of the water.

Normally off and stowed in the house.  My boat is parked covered in my driveway year round.  Rods/reels are locked in the garage.  Any trip where I am staying in a hotel, finders are removed and in the room at night.  Rods/reels are in the rod locker with a lok r bar that has the alarmed padlock.  Week in Wisconsin where boat is at the dock, graphs are left on the boat as well as the rods/reels.  Week in Michigan on st Clair, we are on Harsens island and the boats stay in the water with all gear.  Just got back from a week at Roland Martin’s on Okeechobee, graphs off and in the room, gear left under cover on boat.

Everything comes off the boat when I get home . Wife wonders why it takes so long to load the boat up again to go fishing ....she says it takes me 3 hours . Lol

For those of you that remove your graphs every time, do you park your boat in the garage or shed at home or is your boat parked outside?  Taking them off if you park in the garage seems like over kill to me.

If I parked my boat outside, I would remove them.

Garage.

I mainly take them off so they don't get road debris on them or risk having them come loose and fall off while I'm driving and not notice.  I have had my console mounted one come off the mount when I was on choppy water once.  Luckily Garmin thought well enough about their product to make it water proof and so it floats and I was able to retrieve it with no harm done to it.  Popped it back on the mount and off I went.  I don't think it coming off the mount going down the road with would have the same outcome though.

Only removed if parked outside on a trip.
