Two humminbird unit options

Not very knowledgeable with electronics and dont know any good resources to learn. I have a g3 helix 7 and am considering buying a g4 helix 9 to run two units on my next boat. 

 

The helix 7 is a SI unit, with a SI transducer but i would like to make that my bow unit and the 9 the console unit. Is it possible to connect a g3 with a g4 using one transducer? What are the downsides with having one transducer vs 2, and are the advantages worth it?

 

If I decide to run the 7 on the bow with it's own transducer I will need to get a DI transducer and don't know anything about that either.

My knowledge is far from being an expert but I do know your units cannot share information if they are not a Helix 7G3N or other configuration containing the ‘N’ indicator.The N indicating they can be networked. As far as transducers I’m not the one to give you suggestions in that area. There is information available if you do your research.

Yes you can do what you are asking if and only if the Helix 7 and 9 are both “N” units. 
 

you can share all data transducer, temperature and GPS data (except for map cards) between all Helix N units.

I personally would want the 9” on the bow and the 7” on the console. Console SI and bow DI.

As for transducer it depends on a lot of info you haven’t disclosed. What TM? Is it one compatible with the helix’s and it has a built in transducer? If so what transducer. As mentioned above are the birds gn3 and gn4 if so they can be networked.  More info and there is a lot of talent on here that will help.

You might want to go over to the Bass Pro Shop in Council Bluffs and talk to one of the guys in electronics.

Left out that my helix is a g3n. While I am trying to do my own research, I was looking for input from those with experience and that will be non biased and thought this was a good place to start besides youtube. 

 

I consider myself still new to bass fishing, only been really dedicated to for about 3 years and am VERY new to electronics and boat owning. I have had a jon boat for the first 3 years but am in the market to spend some money on a bigger rig this year, including another sonar unit and a trolling motor.

 

One boat I am currently looking at, and have a time setup to see has a power drive v2 with a transducer but i need to find out what transducer. it has been hard getting ahold of the guy. The listing is on Facebook and all of his replies come days later.

 

Thanks for the help provided, I already planned on going to Bass Pro this week but wanted to ask for help here as well. In addition to working 60 hrs a week, my free time has been ate up by ice fishing( done now) and making my own soft plastic baits, so again I really do appreciate the help.
