Ski Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Ya know, I watched Chris Lane win a MLF event using one in bone color. I spoke to him personally about it. So I bought one of both sizes, took them to my favorite lake "Stickmarsh" on a 50 + fish day and could not generate a bite. Now it had GREAT action and noise however I did just not get a look. Please do not just take this as the product not being any good! I just could not understand it. Chicken one day and feathers the next. I would not give up on it because of my own review. Fishingmickey Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 I've had great success with them when the conditions are right. Most memorable was on vacation in Maine. Numerous northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth is was golden that morning. The pike were between 24 - 36", largemouth I had a couple that were in the 4-5lb range.. smallies went 2-3lbs. FM 2 Quote

But areas I fish the most have established grass and other areas have a lot of chopped floating grass. Figured I’d be fighting it wrapping or getting caught In propeller. I stayed away from them. I’ll try it at my local small lake when it gets warm around here. Man, it’s light. I see guys crush the bass with the giant loon colored one on the Cali Delta. It’s still popular around here. 1 Quote
Frezzy Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 I regularly use the 130 size for smallmouth. Just don't see any reason to use such a small topwater bait like the 60. If you really want a more subtle presentation just use the 90. 1 1 Quote

A lot of guys say NO, and get aggressively adamant about it. I continuously find in my own fishing experience that they're not dumb bricks and do get wise/trained/conditioned. Oddly though I haven't found them line shy at all. Quote

Fishingmickey Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Probably my favorite size is the 75. It casts great makes just as much noise as the 90 or the 110. The 90 is the one I won't touch, I know a lot of people like the 90 but for me if the prop gets fouled it rolls badly and creates significant line twist. Both the 75 and the 110 are deeper keeled (fatter) and don't have the tendency to roll or spin on the retrieve like the 90 does. The 130 and 190 in Loon or Bone are supposed to be a serious big fish bait. Fishingmickey Quote

I picked a couple up as soon as I saw them available but that was too late in the year here for them to be effective. A lot of comments making it sound like it's been around a while but I have a feeling there's either some mixing up of what one the 60 is, or just seeing Whopper Plopper and assuming the question is just about ploppers. I had to look, got mine in late October, not prime time topwater season here unfortunately. For those asking "why fish one so small?"
