Small suspending jerkbaits...

Do you guys have any favorites? Looking for something in the 2.5-3.25 inch range. I already have some small x-raps but they are kind of aggressive for super cold water in my experience...I also have some husky jerks but they don't suspend as well as I'd like

While a little larger than listed I really like the Ima Flit 100. They've all suspended excellent out of package too.

LC 65 pointer is all i've caught fish on, picked up some duo realis 63 to try along with yozuri 3ds but haven't really thrown the last two yet.

Pointer 78 is about as tried and true as can be...

I had a lot of success with the duo realis rozante. I used the 77 size, but it comes smaller. Even the 77 is a very small profile. 

 

Casts far, only dives about 2 feet, suspends, gets bit. I used it in the spring when wanting to use a jerkbait ultra shallow or over top of weeds.

I havent been able to find a small JB thats superior to the Rozy 63.  What really sets them apart is the weight transfer system.  The hooks are light wire and extremely sharp so you hook a lot of fish on slack line as they try to blow it out of their mouth.  They can be a little difficult to get at times, colors are great, but limited when compared to LC.  You can put bigger hooks on it, but the only 1s that Ive that wont make it sink are the stock hooks from the 77sp which is another outstanding JB.  The 77s are a little easier to get.  The 85sp is just a smaller version of the 100sp JB, unlike the rozantes its got flat sides and no weight transfer system.  It floats a little faster then the Rozys and has a different action because of its shape.

My first experience with the duo realis rozante 77. was pretty short lived.

I was  casting a similar sized yozuri jerkbait with my medium action spinning setup.

I was about 20 yards from shore casting toward bank, working  down the rip rap.

I decided to tie on a rozante and give it a try. My first cast landed in the trees at least 20 yards past the shoreline. With rip rap shoreline I did not want to beach the boat, so I broke off and tied on another one. This time I turned around and casted toward open water to get a feel for the bait. I was amazed how far it would fly on an average cast. The bait makes a distinct click when you cast it. That must be the after burners kicking in.

it works fine on a spinning setup, but you can easily cast it with a baitcaster.

Plus it flat out catches fish.

I think the rozante 77 is exactly what I want. The places I'm fishing have weeds even shortly after ice out so I want a bait that dives no more than 2-3 ft.

Fish which ever small shallow jerkbait you have with your rod tip up and you'll accomplish that..

 

You need to fish Okoboji more often!

Your right I do! I never bass fish up there...seems I'm always chasing pan fish.

Not a better small jerkbait made than the 77 Rozante. I fish them all year long. They might be even better in warm water than they are in cold water. I fish them very fast for smallmouth when the water gets into the 70's and 80's. Largemouth eat them well too, but it just seems to do something to the smallmouth.

 Why have I never seen this 77 rozante hanging in the store?? I might have to try a few different stores

#8 HJ is my go to small JB for cold water. Start with an extra split ring at the nose, and it should suspend or ever so slowly sink. I have a couple of LCs (bevy something or other) that work well.

Never fished any finesse jerk that held a candle to the X-80 trick darter.  Be advised though- they’re highly addictive, they aren’t cheap and the katsuage hooks are suuuuuper sticky but prone to destruction when fighting the big girls.

I’ve been a fan of Stile Kings KVD 200 size jerkbait for a while. Works well on lakes where they’re feeding on small smelts up here.

I notice the front hook can 'stick' to the body sometimes if it comes in contact with it. It must be from the magnet inside. 

 

Now, the force from the magnet isn't that strong, so I doubt it'll hang up like this while in the water and I'm ripping it along. But I'm just curious if this is normal with these baits.
