torm Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 So normally baitcaster have a side to side play if you play with the tension knobs. I have a shimano antares and no matter how loose I turn the knob it does not have any side to side play at all. This makes it kinda hard to adjust for casting. I have the previous antares and it does though. Not sure if this is a bad sign or if its just this reel? Any thoughts? Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 27, 2021 Super User Posted February 27, 2021 Does it cast well? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 27, 2021 Super User Posted February 27, 2021 No it's not normal. Something is hanging up. Quote
The Bassman Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 It's actually a result of Shimano's spring loaded spool shaft bearing. Just tighten the knob down until you notice the lure drop slowing then back off accordingly. 3 Quote

The Bassman Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Just now, dodgeguy said: Thats weird.what if you like it looser? The spool will go pretty much full loose but the tension on the edge of the bearing prevents side play. Supposed to reduce vibration. Quote

torm Posted February 28, 2021 Author Posted February 28, 2021 Good to know. No issues casting it, just kinda thought it was strange since all my other baitcaster and the previous generation for that reel had it. Quote
