Check all the small ponds around roadways, commercial buildings, and community development.  A lot of these small water bodies have a good number of large black bass.  Go on google earth for the area your in and look for water bodies.  Just be careful walking the banks when the grass is high.  Many snakes, and a few gators also.  Always wear boots, never in flip flops or bare feet.  Some of my biggest bass have been out of five acre man made ponds that are seldom fished.

Agree with Chris.  You'll be next to some top notch tarpon amd redfishing, among other species.  Almost everything in saltwater fights harder than a bass.  And much of it can be caught on bass gear.  Go chase something you can't catch back home.

Find a boat ramp on one of the tributaries of west bay, north bay, east bay of the grand lagoon. Bring a canoe or kayak. Fish the salt grass beds and oyster bars on the bay itself.  No tarpon, but redfish, seatrout, and catfish are abundant.  I had a 26" redfish tow my solo canoe around for a bit last time I fished there.  If you head far enough up the tribs you'll catch redfish and bass together if the tide is right.
