Why don't we use the term Pitching?

A correctly dialed in reel is more important than the rod when pitching. 
As @J Francho mentioned a well placed pitch can be done with any type or length of rod
A longer of each will help with distance somewhat but certainly not required. 
 

A correctly powered rod and to some degree line is more important when flipping, consider it up close and personal target placing. 
 

An experienced angler can pitch 30 ft with a high degree of accuracy as easily as an inexperienced one can flip 10.

Yes. Cause I’m not great, and it shows if I’m not on a reel that’s really set up well for it.  Although I pitch and flip spinning all the time with little effort. Bait caster is what I have to really set up correctly.

Its really not that hard to do. 
Just loosen the cast control knob to a point where the lure will drop freely. 
That’s it. 
You’ll read where guys will loosen until the spool has a lot of side play but it’s  not necessary.
All you need is to take enough friction off that will allow you to hit your mark, any more than that isn’t necessary. 

On my pitching rod it’s no more than about 1/2 turn. 
When it’s set right you won’t need your off hand at all. 
 

Since the reel is engaged when flipping the only adjustment you may want to do is to the drag setting. 
Nothing else is necessary

For pitching, sit in your living room while watching TV or listening to music.  Take a casting rod, and release the bait, stopping it with your thumb just before hitting the ground.  Keep doing this over and over.  When you get good at stopping the bait gently, like braking at a red light, loosen the spool tension a bit.  This will get your thumb ready for pitching with a baitcaster.  In fact, it will help with any casting, but really helps with the slower spool speeds when pitching.

Flipping to me looks like your knitting a sweater on a loom, or your bow fishing with a limp string, or your  directing a band while re-stringing a guitar. It’s different.

I just pitch and try not to FLIP out in the wakers going by.

In this video Denny Brauer talks about setting up his reel, he pushes the button, lets it fall until it hits the floor without backlash & without thumb.

How many of you can flip from a kayak with low positioned seating ?

This is where I struggle with my mostly 7' rods.

 

Neither one of my fishing kayaks are confidence inspiring while standing.

My buddy took the shot using my DSLR in single shot mode.  He has a good eye for framing, and the fast response on that shutter helps.  Often, you miss the best shot using burst mode.  Video is getting so good these days, you can grab good stills from a clip.

If you can drop your kayak in a pool, you can really work on what the boat will do in a safer environment.  You can also practice reentry.  Most of my boats, save the Coosa, you'd fall off it before rolling it.

I hear that - any still I post that has a date/timestamp on it is from my video...and it's a 'cheap' camera too...I can't afford even a used Go-Pro.

GoPro footage is overrated.  I think it's a nice way for someone with the means to document their fishing, but weeding through all that footage of someone else's fishing isn't on my day planner.  I think most video can be cut down to about a minute or so.  The Instagram one minute rule should be in full effect.

I hear that - luckily I have software that lets me cut clips out...the short clips I've also posted are from that.

When I am fishing from my sit inside kayak, I kind of do a side pitch if that makes sense.

I think of it like this

Structure is the hill/canyon/cliff that's built of rock/earth

Cover is the grass/bushes/trees that grow from it

Yes, makes sense. It's a horizontal back hand cast. Shorter rods like 6'6"-ish  work better for me for this if the pitch is perpendicular to the yak.

They use taper for action and action for power, length is girth I think (at least for the Ducketts)...

Kent - tried that twice, stated a max budget...and almost all of the rods recommended were 1.5x-3x my stated max...so gave up and researched on my own.
