Problem With Installing Skirts on Jig Heads

Hopefully someone can help me with this.

Bought all the fixins for assembling skirts for jigs. The regular collars were out of stock, so I bought the BOSS collar rings and found that while I could get them over the bait keeper, I couldn’t get them past the skirt collar on the jig head without tearing things up. It was also a chore getting them onto the skirt tool. Are the regular collars easier to work with?

Any ideas?

When needed, I will often 'lube' them both up a little.

The 'tool' and the jig collar.

Doesn't take much.

Over doing it can make both hard to work with.

And a little and I mean a little, Megastrike works well.

I just roll the bands onto the tool instead of trying to slide them on. (can even be done with the rattle bands) 
When pushing up on the jig and it gets to the keeper you can grab all the strands on that side of the skirt and gently pull the band away from the bait while sliding it up. Once over you can do the same to the other side.

I got tired of messing with collars and tired of them rotting.  I switched to wire tying my jigs a long time ago.

I've thought of trying to tie them but I run rattles on every jig I make.  How do you attach duel rattles without using any collars?

So the rattle still has a collar. 

Does the one you linked, last longer than skirt collars do?

Since the purpose of hand tying the skirts on is to remove the rubber that can deteriorate.

I use these and they slide on the jig hook after the skirt

(regardless of how it's secured)

and before the trailer.

Saw this in a lot of articles. Going to give it a shot, but would still like to use the collars to get the skirt on and be able to adjust the strands before tying with wire.

You could incorporate this band into the wire skirt 'tie' if you felt the need.

Just lay the 'legs' of the rattles band along the length of the jig hook with the skirt 

so that the wraps get both.

Thank you very much! 

That right there is the answer, that I didn't know I was looking for, that I just couldn't come up with and picture in my head.

I will definitely have to give wire tying a try now.

If there is a big hump to get over on the bait I just use some Chap stick.

I like to use thread and put a couple of light wraps to hold the skirt while I position it.  Then put the wire in place, pull the thread, and cinch the wire down.  That is a lot easier for me than messing with a collar.

I don't usually put rattles on my jigs but just wire wrap the skirt then take another small piece of wire and wrap on the rattle.

I don't know if this will work for you but I slide my skirt up to the collar on the jig and then I slide snap ring pliers (the style that opens the jaws when you close the handle) under the skirt to expand it. Then its just a matter of sliding the skirt into place.

I use 4" zip ties.  They are the same width as those elastic bands that dissentigrate after a couple years.  You can tuck the buckle under the weed guard for heavy cover, but I like to leave it out on the underside of the jig...acts as a fulcrum to hike up your trailer when dragged.  The one on the left has a tucked buckle, and the one on the right has an exposed buckle.
