I know some are fishing but up here I’m pretty much holding out for late March which will still be cold in regards to water and air temps. This give me a chance to plan new techniques and gather gear accordingly. This is also my 3rd year focused on bass as my primary targets. To be honest, some tackle has been tough to find but I’m down to just a few JDM soft plastics which aren’t for sale globally in my search efforts. How is everyone else doing in tackle acquisition this winter?

I was fortunate enough to have stocked up on hooks, weights, and plastic to last awhile. Enough hard baits for a bit too.

But, now days it's impossible to find much of anything. I have been calling BPS for a rod I have been looking for and they still don't have stock. It's probably going to be a rough year for tackle again. Could really use a few more spinnerbaits as well, but can't find them.

I stock up as needed, but I also fish year round.

One more rod coming in - just ordered today - then I'm set.

Spent Yule money stocking up on favorite hardbaits and plastics and adding a few more to the stash. Only way I'll need to get more is if the bass tear them up willy-nilly.

Fishing here is six months max (mid-April to mid-October - bass season is one month less (starts mid-May)...so I really should be pretty much set for the year.

My hook, weights, and terminal tackle inventory is ready for the 2021 campaign.

Supplemental bulk spool supplies for mainlines & Leaders is also flush.

Current Hard, soft, wire and metal bait supplies reflect an effective assortment of colors, sizes and patterns.

Tools, scales, net and camera equiptment is totally ready to go. Standard procedure is to update the graphs software right before open water.

So as it may seem, I'm Good.

Mills Fleet had not so many rods today, but the tackle shelves were full.  Amusingly I bought nothing there, but did pick up a rod in their parking lot thanks to local classifieds.

I ought to be good for years with what I have, of course I can always find holes in my arsenal, but if I could magic a bass boat into existence, load it with everything I got currently, I find it hard to imagine that there is a situation I haven't got at least 2 or 3 options for effectively attacking, this doesn't at all mean I'm not still planning on expanding my arsenal to fill the holes I notice along the way.

I could probably make it 7-10 years with what I already have, with back-ups to the back-ups, and so forth. But if something I constantly catch fish on hits a clearance sale.... you have to buy, Right? lol

Did not need a real lot for the upcoming season. Wanted some dubs and triples of my harder used crankbaits. They are here. Been waiting for my order of a new version of a Rapala. Get more and more disgusted with that delay everyday. I really don’t need them anyway. Prior to the holidays I got on board with some Xzone products. Looking forward to them. Got in some bulk spools of 6 & 8 lb. test. Wanted a spare spool for my Nasci 2500. Picked up on some Zoom Lizards to replenish stock. I scored on some TW gift cards at the holiday. No rush to use them yet. But I’m ready to go even without above mentioned items.

But I think you are right about shortages of items again this year. Maybe worse than last season.

$1,050 on 4 new rods and reels (I still want to get another)

$1,000~ on hard baits, soft baits, terminal tackle, and line

$250~ on some bags, boxes, and rod sleeves

$200~ on a few fishing related tools, fishing related clothing, and a steel half gallon water bottle

That's about $2,500~. I "need" another Kaden and Tournament MP. Pandemic "PTSD" from everything being sold out and backordered last year and the winter blues and boredom have gone straight to my wallet.

You know you've got too much stuff when the wife asks how many "fishing poles" do guys need as I'm watching MLF on TV. Guilty conscience.

As much as I make man jokes about my fiance, she's really reasonable and completely understands the golf clubs analogy due to her brother being a huge golfer around here.

but don't tell my wife....

I'm about the same but the wife and I came to an agreement. So long as we don't poverty ourselves, she won't complain about me buying more fishing gear so long as I don't complain about her buying more bullet-journal things.

(this was after I begged her to let me get 'just one more rod and my line-up will be complete'...and she put up that deal)

Sounds a bit like last year for me, except I'll take the total number with me to the grave, it was unbelievably high, still, I consider it worth it in the long run, I feel much better prepared and like there is 0% chance I get bored or run out of lures to work on becoming proficient with and really nailing where exactly each thing fits/plays for me.

I loaded up this winter too. I have mentioned this in other threads, but I prefer to buy tackle and lures in person. It’s the way I’ve done it for 20 years living in this area. There is a Fleet Farm, Dicks, Cabelas, and Scheels all within 30 minutes of me so I’ve never had to buy items online...until last year. Retail stores were wiped out. So out of necessity I had to buy hooks, line, sinkers, plastics, etc online when I needed them.

I’ve been to Dicks, Cabelas, and Scheels all in the past 2 months and they were loaded. Full shelves have returned. I don’t know if it’s like this because they’ve simply caught back up now or demand is down in the winter. But either way, I’m not running out this season if there’s another surge.

Only thing I’m really running low on is offset worm hooks.  I bought a lot of tungsten last year so I should be set on that. I’m good on soft plastics.  I’m always a sucker for a new crank or jerk bait though. U

My fishinging season generally runs from late March untill early October. April is very hit and miss here.  the last two  April’s have been very windy, cold, and wet. I’m hoping a bigger boat this year mitigates the wind part .  we did have a couple 60 degree days in November that I fished and did well

im wondering with things returning to normal this summer if the numbers of people fishing stay up or start to taper off.

She sounds like a keeper. Fishing, hunting and shooting clays are my bad habits. My wife has been a good gal for 40 years dealing with my bad habits.

I used to feel bad about all the tackle I have laying around, but when covid killed my industry last March it was really really nice to know that I could fish for a few years w/o spending an additional dime, other than a spool on line now and then.

I just bought all the missing terminal this week and most of my soft plastic refills. Haven't done the full bait inventory so I'm sure I will need to pick up some odds and ends. Really, I just need to get a variety of line and I'll be ready.
