As the title suggests who has this swimbait setup? How do you like it? What is the heaviest bait you've thrown with it/would feel comfortable throwing with it? I have this setup but due to having a baby last year didn't get to do a whole lot of fishing. Now that my youngest son is over 1 year old and a little more capable of doing things on his own (playing in his play yard etc.) I won't need to stay home as much and help mommy out with him so hopefully I'll get more time to fish. Anyhow, my biggest bait for this setup so far is an S-Waver 200 that I got for Christmas, weighing in at 3.5oz. I've heard that is this rods sweet spot. I would like to hear from others who have this exact same rod/reel setup though and see what you think? Any tips or tricks or something to watch out for?

That's the exact setup I have for my swimbaits. Now, I'll admit I don't throw big/bigger swimbaits as much as I fish other techniques, but I absolutely love this combo. Feels great, and it loads great.

I definitely don't throw anything 5 oz tho, which is the max weight recommended for the rod.

Some of the stuff I use it for are the Bucca Bull Shad (2 oz), BBZ-1 Rat 50  (2.5 oz), S-Waver 168, Magdraft (8"), BBZ-1 Swimbait (2.25 oz), Megabass Vatalion, Jackall Gantarel.

Like I said, nothing crazy big. But for these baits it does great and I think it'll easily handle baits up to 4 oz for sure.

My biggest baits are that S-Waver that I mentioned at 3.5oz. and a couple Baitsanity Antidote's that are 2.7oz. The rest of my stuff is smaller like yours...S-Waver 168's, Savage Gears 3D Shine Glide 185's, Savage Gear 4D pulse Tail Trout 8", Keitech 6.8" etc.

How do you like the 8" Magdraft?

That's my exact swimbait setup also. Biggest I have is an S-Waver 168 (plus a couple of Amazon knock-offs)...  I also throw an A-Rig on it that it probably pretty close to the same weight, but does not cast as well, probably more due to me not casting it as aggressively as the S-Waver... and drag through the air. I use this rig for larger swim jigs and chatter baits too. I can't cast nearly as well with this rig as I can with my crankbait rig (Dobyns Fury 705CB and Tatula Elite) or nearly any of my other rigs. I still think it's due to my technique throwing heavier lures and fear of breaking my leader or line. I just added a GoPro on a Yolotek powerstick and am going to record myelf on the water to see what I'm doing different casting my swimbait rig versus my others.

Yeah you'll have no issues with those baits. for the S-Waver 200 you'll just wanna 'lob' it more.

I really like slow-rolling the Magdraft. I've only caught a handful on it so far (this past fall).

If 3 - 3.5oz. is this rods sweet spot shouldn't you be able to chuck that S-Waver 200 as far as you can so you can cover as much open water as possible?

Quite possible. I've yet to throw a bait that size on it. Like I said it loads up really nice so you may not have to really lob it like you see with even heavier baits.

Same setup, I'd say 2.5 is more of the sweet spot. I mainly throw Hud68 ROF 12, so about 2.25oz and it will flat out send it.

Sounds like I might upgrade to the 806HSB to make sure I can throw all of those baits!

I've the same rod but different reel paired with, I use 795 for oversized crank like MB Big M and medium swimbait, the max weight I throw is almost 3oz.

If you need to throw heavier baits go to Fury 806

If I upgraded to a Fury 806 would the Daiwa Tatula 200 I already have be an adequate reel for that rod or should I look into upgrading that to a Lexa 300?

Want to borrow my 806 Fury?

I have the 795 but mine is paired with a Daiwa Coastal. So far my favorite thing to throw on it is a 1oz Big Hammer Jig head with a big paddle tail attached for big bass and walleye. This combo just lauches it across the water.

The 200 also has a completely different, as in worse, braking system than other Tatulas.  Does it feel overbraked at the end of the cast and backing off the mag dial makes it fluff up earlier in the cast?

I'm not sure. My other reels are a pair of elites (regular and a P/F for cranks and pitch/flip respectively), an SV TW on my skipping rig, and two CTs (frog rig and topwater rig). The only rigs I make long casts on are the cranking, swimbait, and topwater rig. My cranking rig by far casts the furthest, but I think my casting technique loads a moderate-ish rod better than a fast ro, and the elite reel probably helps a bit. I think I am overloading the 795SB when I cast because I tend to get a highly parabolic trajectory - way too much altitude versus distance. Or maybe I'm releasing too soon. It is the longest of my distance casting rods (my FR 805 is longer, but it's for pitching/flipping) so maybe that's the problem. I just need more practice. I have similar issues when I surf fish, which I only get to do every few months, getting used to long rods and timing the release just right.

I run a Tat HD with that rod. Pretty much same reel. I chuck A Rigs and big glide baits on it a lot. Does a good job.

I have the Fury 795swbt as well, and had it paired up with curado dc.  This year it'll be with a curado 300 because I spent way too much and added a whole arsenal of rods and reels over the fall/winter.  I also have a Tat 200 on a Champ 735.  The S waver 200 seems like the max to throw on the 795.  I definitely lob a sidearm cast with it and get great distance, but it's a gentle motion for sure.  In an alternate reality, I wish there was a 796.

That said, I love that rod.  It gave me 8 bass between 4.5-6lbs, and 3 35"+ pike in MI in the span of 6 weeks from a 250acre lake.  Big baits have changed my mindset on these bodies of water.  My only tip, in deep water (15'+) be patient and count down the swaver 200 or better yet let it fall to the bottom before starting the retrieve.  That accounted for 3 of those 8, including the largest 2.  Also, fishing uphill in the middle of the day seemed significantly more effective in the colder water.  Watching a big bait follower commit to eating is now my favorite thing in bass fishing.

Congrats on the new addition to the family, sounds like the perfect reason to fish less for a year!

I have the 795 with a Curado 200 E5. Worked decent for the few times I have tried larger swimbaits.  Really put it to more use this year throwing umbrella rig. The problem I had there was the castability. I'm not sure if it's the nature of the umbrella rig in the air or what but I didn't get much distance.  I actually don't thing the rod loads up enough to really fling the rig.  I am going to work in technique see if that helps. If not I will switch to a softer tipped rod
