So let's delve into this a little deeper. Lol

So an avid bass fisherman geographically located between the state of Minnesota and the state of Florida was given a choice to go to Florida and catch a 9 lber or go to Minnesota and catch a 7 lber......I'm betting that 9 lber would get caught over and over again.

Understand what your saying though.

If you weren't guaranteed to catch either fish, then yes Florida simply because your odds are better.  7 pounds in MN is an absolutely ridiculous fish and if given the guaranteed choice I would take that over a 10 pounder in Florida every day of the week....

I can remember them all but I’ve only weighed one or two so there is some grey area. Don’t really care that much, got pictures

I disqualify my PB's caught on a tip up while ice fishing. All others I acknowledge.

I am prouder of my my 6lb 2oz smallmouth from NH than my 6 lb 5oz on Lake Erie.

Don’t really care. I can pretty much recall where most every big bass I’ve ever caught over the last 30 years came from, but I don’t track or record anything specific in that regard. Odds of me ever breaking my PB these days is slim to none, so I don’t give it much thought or effort. I just go fishing and catch what I can.

nope.  As mentioned above, I do remember where the big ones were hooked and the exhilaration of playing them to hand with 6lb line, back-reeling all the way.  Several of them were 40" musky and +20" smallies.

I honestly have at least dozen more places I'd rather fish for bass than Florida, having been there more than a few times.  It was fun, glad I got the opportunity to go, but I'm good.  That said, I kind of agree with you - Minnesota is not on my list at all.  Maybe that's a mistake, who knows.  I hear the fishing is pretty good up there all the time on these forums.

Wherever you fish the biggest fish in that body of water is a good goal and impressive.

However, you may have to travel to catch the big girls. If your dream bass is 10 lbs, like

everyone else, your chances are best in one of the big four states or Mexico. Tennessee

produces several double digits every year, but it is NOT where you want to go for a high

probability of landing those bass.

what four states?  Florida, Texas, Cali, and?

I can’t say I’d count anything with a guide as my PB, but beyond that I only have one PB.

Not nearly the factory as the other states. They pop up here and there but not anywhere near the frequency of the other states.

I also live in the black hole of GA freshwater fishing so that may shade my judgement. ?

What Pat has accomplished surpasses the imagination, great article.

Even retired, I could never devote that kind of time.

This man is consistantly fishing 6 days per week, wow.

Thanks for sharing.

As a side note, sadly, Mr. Pat Cullen passed away back in 2014 at the age of 70. Not certain what his final bass count total was, but I've seen 1300 and change mentioned a time or two.

No doubt they are here. Especially in private waters. But in public water you don’t hear of them frequently as those other states. (No Rodman’s, lake forks, the delta, etc).

Sorry to swing the subject!  I go back to my hole now.

Couldn't tell you the weight of my PB bass, only put fish to a scale when its the format.

About ten years ago we started a family record for species by length with my Dad and brother.  Requirements are a photo of length or verified measurement by member.

It's now a spreadsheet that has a wife and niece holding some records.  Evolved into quite the family battle and talking point.  Once a few more of the young ones get their name on the list I plan of making something out of it.

I fish almost everyday and have for almost 40 years.  Somedays from the boat, some from the bank.  Your giving this catching too much thought.  Just enjoy the catch and throw your line out again and catch another one.  I remember every big bass I catch, and how I caught it.  I know what my PB is and keep a photo record of all over 8 pounds.  I even have a few mounts, because the wife likes them.  But it takes me about 30 seconds to put the line back in the water and move on.  No one cares except you, so just keep fishing!!!!!!1

Only one PB matters to me and that is breaking the DD mark. lots of time on good water to never get it done. more over 8 than I can remember and 3 over 9  but that dang 10 pound mark.  no after all that nope only one PB.

Nope, just call your biggest bass caught your PB. There are guys who fish 30 years and would never catch an 8lb bass in the waters they fish, but they can spend a few days in Mexico and catch a DD. Nothing wrong with that, I would love the opportunity to do so.

There are also guys who have caught multiple DD bass in areas where they are plenty and they will act like they are the best angler in the world.

In the end, whatever makes YOU happy is all that matters.

I kind of feel like a bass (or any other fish for that matter) size is relative to the size of other fish in that region, I would feel much more accomplished catching a 10lb bass in Oregon than in California, for example, because no fish has ever hit 10lb in Oregon, but you have a lot of 10lb fish in California, the larger the average fish in the region, the larger it would have to be in order to be a truly impressive fish to me, on the other hand, anyone who is devoted enough to take the time to locate large fish areas, spends the money to go, lodge, license etc in order to catch one is a bona-fide bass nut in my estimation and has earned the right to brag a bit, nothing wrong with it at all...y'all just remember it was thiiiiiiiiis big.
