Do rage craws flap when dragged slowly? I never tried them in the cold weather but today I tested some jigs cranks and other lures today after work in a empty fish tank I noticed that when dragged very slowly the rage craw doesn't really move it claws as well but is great at hopping and other faster movements. Does it matter if the rage craw barely moves when fished slow?

Or am I just overthinking?

I love crawling a t rig rage craw or jig and rage craw on bottom! I got a fat pickerel the other day in MA in cold water!

Does the action stay the same though? The flaps barely moved when I dragged it slowly

I’ll have to look in clear water!

I don’t know what the claws do when you slow it down, but fast or slow it just works...

Try the Baby Rage Bug as a jig trailer. Thank me once you start catching more fish ;)

For finesse jigs or standard size?

Uve pretty much answered ur own question.  Yes it can be fished slow. Do u want less action?  In cold water I stay away from the rage craws because they have more action than I want. Not really convinced it matters but I find myself fishing things like chunks and chigger craw typed in colder water. If u wanna slow down and crawl it I'm sure it would produce in the right area. I used to think my baits needed tons of action.  Over the years I have eased away from that and seem to do better on baits with little to no action. I think the subtlety makes a difference in pressured waters.  Try it fished any way you want.  Don't know that there's a wrong way to fish a rage craw!

Thanks man! Yeah I'm probably overthinking it hahaha I already have a bunch of chunks I ordered for the spring. Might save the rage craws for when the water warms up!

I’ve caught fish more than once picking out a backlash. With it just sitting there for a few. So yes just fish it.

Admittedly other baits as well.

What type of jigs do you throw them on?  I want to use them but even if I trim one of my standard jigs down the legs just feel too small?  Is a finesse cut a must?

A rage chunk and a rage craw is the same thing, just different body sizes.  I believe @J Francho has stated the chunk is a bit more durable but I haven’t tested

Sometimes they want faster action, sometimes they want slower, sometimes they want it hopped, sometimes they want it dragged.

Sometimes they wait until you to get the backlash out of your reel before letting

you know they are there.

Sometimes they don't want it at all, that's why it's called fishing & not catching.

Believe it or not but never thrown a Rage craw by itself or as a trailer.

In colder water I like a pegged creature bait or brush hog, very very slowly in structure.

If my wife is walking around the kitchen with a freshly baked rhubarb pie and i am hungry or not, cold or hot i am chasing down that pie untill i get a slice.

I agree that you're over-thinking this. I have as much confidence in a Gene Larew Salt Craw as a jig  trailer, which has no movement other than what I impart during the retrieve.

That's not to say that I don't use a Rage Craw at times, but I don't really worry about how much action a trailer has.

A T-rigged Rage Craw is one of my favorite lures. Fished fast or slow, it works! :)

Yeah I mean there's probably a bass that will bite it if it's dragged very slowly but before yesterdays experiment I was always under the assumption that rage craw would go beserk at the slightest movement including very slow drags or hops. After reading all of the comments I realized that the rage craw not really moving as much could be a benefit in colder water. It still stands up in that iconic crawfish defense position like many other motionless chunks or beavers. I will throw this as a trailer during the spring and will experiment on the actual water with it instead of a fishtank hahahahaha.

I had one on as a chatter bait trailer. I cast, took a phone call while letting it sit there. When I started to reel it in to cast it out I realized there was a Smallmouth Bass on the line.

Having a fish waiting on the line would be a great way to forget the frustration of a backlash.

Yes you can fish them slow.  I like a pac chunk or chigger craw too. But I think we are overthinking this... I mean in winter a jerk bait is killer, the slow part comes from the pauses, but the jerks have Fast moving action.  I think it's just a balance of both with the rage craw as well, its gonna flap on the was down the. Slow way down as long as it's a very subtle hop or drag.
