Good evening from the snowy north. The snow has finally started melting and my "Gone Fishing" sign just peeked out from the 3 foot tall snow drift and saw its shadow. Only 10 more weeks of winter to go. We should be good to go by May 1st when you all are too hot down south.

Actually, May isnt too bad in N. Florida. It’s usually a very good month for me.

Im glad you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel up there...

With winters getting shorter MA has been open-water fishable in the first week of March in recent years. Judging by the long term forecast looks to be the case this year as well.

For hundreds of years Russia exiled criminals and political dissidents to Siberia.

10 weeks? There's gonna be open water out here a lot sooner than May!  You're only 20min away from me, and I'd say over half the time you should be able to get on the water by mid-March. And bass are C&R year-round, as of a few years ago!

We are guilty of enjoying absolutely glorious Summers, the promise of which keeps us going until the next.

I'm in the north and looking to be on the water around Daylight Savings Time. With this forecast, all the ice on the smaller waters will be melted within a week or two at most.

They're still reporting up to 18" of ice on Minnetonka - even with the 40s we've been seeing. It's just creating slush on the surface. It's gonna be a bit for us.

@ironbjorn where you from? I'm in Northwest Iowa right on the South Dakota border. I'm predicting ice out here in about that same time frame.

10 weeks is about right for me too. Open water will come sooner than that but the whole month of April is closed season for most game fish here (not even allowed to target them). So I’m patiently awaiting  the month of May. Thankfully, it was a mild winter for us.

March is the snowiest month of the year here, average ice out on Tonka is April 11th...we have some more winter for sure but that just gives us time to get the honey do list cleaned up.

Most of the winter other than the 2 weeks in the deep freeze was mild. It will definitely be a while but 18 inches of ice with some melting snow actually isn’t all that much. Some years there’s more than 2 feet of ice and a lot more snow. Long range forecast is calling for 50’s and potentially 60 degrees the week of March 8.

I think the first week of April will bring open water here.

Indiana. It was 60 here today! High 40s and 50s is the forecast for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping it only goes up.

You're still a bit chilly there. As I said above it was 60 today and coming up this weekend we have 3 days in the 50s pushing 60 coming up.

Which means I gotta get off my butt and get working on the canoe to have it ready. Got a couple things to install and a couple more to change from the current setup.

Seems like this has been a much colder than normal Winter for many places and not so much for others. Good news is that Spring will be here soon.

Forecast showing highs near 40 for the next 10 day, already some water opening on the river.... praying I can get out by Mid april

Last year I was out in the kayak about now. Not warm by any stretch but enough ice was gone that I could fish. Still got snow on the ground now, but days are warming.

I’m targeting the first Saturday in April to hit Lake St. Clair. Wow, even just typing that got me pretty amped up!
