Michigander Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 I've been a braid to FC leader guy for a long time, the only all FC I do is on my drop shot rod. However, I want to give Tatsu a go because I read nice things about it. Should I put 15lb or 20lb on my 7'3" Heavy jig rod? I'll have an SLX MGL 70 on it as the reel. I'll be tossing the jigs in all the fun places that jigs like to be. And I assume that I should get some line conditioner? If so, any recommendations are welcome. Quote

I'm putting 15# Tatsu on my MH jigging/moving bait rod - if that helps Yes - KVD has worked great for all my line, YZH especially - so it's all I recommend as a line conditioner. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 24, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2021 It depends on where you’re fishing. For light cover 12# is fine. Moderate cover 15# in fine. Anything heavier use 20# Mike 3 1 Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted February 24, 2021 Super User Posted February 24, 2021 For me it's #15 and KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. 1 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 24, 2021 Super User Posted February 24, 2021 I use 15lb Tatsu on one of my jig rods on a MH in moderate cover and I went with 20lb Shooter on my H rod for Heavy cover. I just added that H rod in December so I haven't had time on the water with it yet. 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 24, 2021 Super User Posted February 24, 2021 While I am an admitted total Tatsu fan boy and fish 20lb on my jig rod, 17 lb InvisX is a fantastic and cost effective 'substitute'. Bet while fishing it, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. A-Jay 4 Quote

A-Jay When looking for something a little lighter than 15 to throw cranks on I went with some 12lb Invizx and I agree it is really good line. 1 Quote

Just wanted to try the premium option of Tatsu to form an opinion of whether straight FC is right for me. 59 minutes ago, Mike L said: It depends on where you’re fishing. For light cover 12# is fine. Wait a couple weeks - BPS/Cabelas sale has Tatsu at 25% off during the spring sale. (clipped from flyer) 1 Quote

(clipped from flyer) I had noticed that but 20lb is cheaper on Amazon right now with free shipping than it will be on sale at BPS even before S&H. ? 1 Quote

Heavy cover to me is a shallow rooted floating mat of some sort that if you threw an exposed hook into, you couldn’t get it out clean. Mike 1 Quote

I'm thinking I like the 17# better & may put it on my worm rod as well. Do you find 17# handles better than 15#? 1 Quote

The 17 presents jigs and A-Rigs. Only difference for me between the 15 and 17, besides a very slight diameter increase, is the 17 seems to have just a little less stretch. To answer your question. @Catt Yes, I do. A-Jay 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 25, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 25, 2021 I use 15lb for most of my jig fishing but you can step up to 20 if you fish a lot of heavy cover. Zero need for line conditioner. 1 Quote

Well, I've got it mainly for the YZH I have on the crankbait rig...use it on my mono just because. I'm just wondering what lines I can skip using it on. Quote

I just got some tatsu in and few the couple times I fished it, I dont think I'll be needing it on that line either. I despise using cheaper berkley or BPS floors, but kvd line conditioner makes them alot easier to deal with. (I havent used them in 8 or 9 years) Quote

(I havent used them in 8 or 9 years) I tried Berkley FC a few years ago - hated it and turned away from FC all together. Got a gifting of Tatsu and AbrasX - Tatsu will be mainline, AbrasX will be leader for braid rigs. Purchased some 6# InvizX for the Ultra Finesse rig - that's why I was wondering about KVD on that. It definitely wont hurt it. Go for it. Yeah, Vanish nearly sent me back to spinning gear and mono only ??. Then I found Sunline, Gamma, and Seaguar and my faith in FC was restored. 1 Quote

That's why I figured I would start out around the top end, don't want to have a negative experience because of the line itself. I might try FC for a while and go back to my usual and that's ok as long as it was a fair shot from both directions. Quote
