Bcdiesel87 Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 I recently purchased a boat. The engine is a 60 horsepower Yamaha 4-stroke. What are some things that I should do like changing the oil or any filters before I take it to the lake? Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 23, 2021 Super User Posted February 23, 2021 That's an open ended question that will lead to a lot more questions. What year is it? When was the last time it was run? How often was it used? Stored inside or outside? When was the last time gas was put in it? The more information you can give, the better answers you will get. There are a lot of helpful guys that hang around here. Quote
Bcdiesel87 Posted February 23, 2021 Author Posted February 23, 2021 Thanks.. It's a 2012 model and supposedly has less than 20 hrs. Don't know exactly when the last time it was ran. It has been sitting since last October. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 23, 2021 Super User Posted February 23, 2021 20 hours in 9 years. You bought it without even knowing if it started? Quote
Bcdiesel87 Posted February 23, 2021 Author Posted February 23, 2021 I didn't see it run own the water, but the engine fired up first turn on two occasions a month apart. There appears to be no issues at all with the motor. I just want to make sure I get a fresh start with it. Quote

Might save you some time and $$$ down the line. A-Jay Quote
Super User GaryH Posted February 23, 2021 Super User Posted February 23, 2021 I second taking it to a Yamaha dealer and have a certified mechanic give it a going over. Then you’ll have peace of mind and get into a regular maintenance schedule. Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 Yep, get it to a Yamaha service location...better safe than sorry. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted February 23, 2021 Super User Posted February 23, 2021 Nine year old water should be replaced first thing. Quote
