Mostly chartreuse and shad colors . I think the fish got sick of them! Gussy just had another fish jump out of his hands, still landed it, and it was 17.9 inches! He had to let it go, still searching for the 5th. he got #5, it’s all over but the crying. He won the derby wire to wire in the same 200-300 yards without casting . Total domination. 20 smallies over 18”, that spot reloaded every single day. Since it’s no secret and gussy has wrapped up the blue trophy, I’ll post pics of two fish I caught on the same spot. I’m sure they were posted here when it happened also and they said it couldn’t be won on purely smallmouth. Don’t tell that to a Canadian!!! 6 Quote

I don’t know if he’s ordering pizza though I wanted to see him try catching them another way just cause!!! Would have been cool if he was able to get a few fish on a deep crank or really anything else. To my knowledge he’s been using a minnow bait on a jighead the whole tournament. Simple but effective Quote
Way north bass guy Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Now that the proper live is online this afternoon, I can see all the action I want ( although most of Gussy’s stuff is replays). Thanks for all the updates @TnRiver46, you should be on there all the time doing live action updates. Quote

Simple but effective Yes sir. They call it damiki fishing down here, it dominated the elite event on Cherokee in ‘17 also. For whatever reason they don’t like drop shot as much as dropping the damiki. Zona says it’s a walleye or lake trout ice fishing method so of course gussy knows it inside and out 34 minutes ago, Way north bass guy said: Now that the proper live is online this afternoon, I can see all the action I want ( although most of Gussy’s stuff is replays). I think Damiki involves ‘tightlining’ and suspending the bait somewhere in the water column. I could be wrong though. Gussy looks like he’s just fishing it on bottom. I’m pretty sure everywhere in walleye country they just call that “jigging”. Up here in Canada we also just call it jigging. But I didn’t use that term because I didn’t wanna confuse it with typical bass jig fishing. If you tell people here that you caught them on a jig without any other context, they’re likely to think you’re talking about a ball head jig with a plastic. "Jigging" or "jig", unless you're talking to somebody with specific shared understanding of bass jargon, means fishing a jighead with a plastic body, hair/feathers, tipped with live bait, or some combination of the three. And generally in open water, either on the bottom or suspended. 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted March 1, 2021 Super User Posted March 1, 2021 It appeared to me like he would lift the jig off the bottom , hold it still and drift with the current through the targeted rocky area . 1 Quote

Not sure what’s going on with their coverage this year, but it’s like it’s being run by kids. Haven’t seen him on there at all this morning, and he’s the dang leader! BASS decided to screw all the loyal fans of BASS live and sold out to FOX So now they get exclusive coverage of the morning shows. I complained so much to the text number they blocked me 1 hour ago, scaleface said: It appeared to me like he would lift the jig off the bottom , hold it still and drift with the current through the targeted rocky area . Thats the damiki presentation down here. The fish suspend off of the bottom alot when its cold and they wont chase anything They could suspend 6inches but you wont get bit fishing anything on the bottom My best luck is letting it drop and holding it right above them Less movement the better Problem is the boredom and almost doing a header into the drink when you doze off 3 Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted March 1, 2021 Super User Posted March 1, 2021 Huh. "Moping". I found this, with Gussy and Jim Lindner for Angling Edge -- he specifically says it's not jigging, although it does look like the same thing as the damiki presentation: 2 Quote
