Tyler. Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Can someone help me understand the duel braking system on these baitcasters. When are the centrifugal and magnetic brakes applied? Is one for beginning and the other for the middle of the cast? I have an abu Garcia black max and it just has magnetic. Pretty simple to set up. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 21, 2021 Super User Posted February 21, 2021 I believe it is similar to Abu Garcia's (Doyo) Infini system. 4 1 Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted February 21, 2021 Super User Posted February 21, 2021 I get a kick out of the quote "This is a very unique braking system" Ummm...there's a number of other manufacturers who have the dual system...my Pflueger Patriarch has it for example. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted February 21, 2021 Super User Posted February 21, 2021 I set the centrifugal brakes for casting with a heavy wind to my back. Then, I adjust the magnetic brakes to compensate for either no wind, or a head wind. Since there's always a pretty stiff wind around here, I use the magnetic brakes to control for that since they're so easy to adjust. The only time I mess with the centrifugal brakes is when I switch from casting to pitching. 1 Quote

I had the displeasure of working on one of these reels over my winter break. It was not a fun project but the reel had been abused and the owner was expecting it to be an everyday workhorse, tournament type reel. I did what I could and made it better by just cleaning it but it needed parts which would have cost more than the reel itself. The owner was not happy. Quote

Magnetic turned down lower as you progress? Quote
K1500 Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 I’ve had 3 of those reels (2 plus a warranty replacement) and wasn’t too impressed with any of them. Perhaps I need to mess with the braking system on them more, but I never could get the distance out of them that I could with any other reels. Quote

I have a Revo Winch Gen 4 with this braking system and casting is pretty good but not the best. Where it does well is in varying conditions (medium wind, rain, etc). You can actually feather a cast with the magnetic brakes and get a nice and easy presentation. Also, a 1/2oz crank is where this reel shines. Overall, I like this system. 1 Quote

If you want to cast into the wind or shorten your casts working the shoreline then bring in some magnetic brakes in addition to the centrifugal. If you want to skip you can max the magnets and add in some spool tension too. I used to have the last gen BPS Pro Q. The Doyo dual brake is a fine braking system. help me understand the skip method. “Max magnets”. Is that say max on side magnets and max on inside centrifugal? Or do you leave centrifugal at the normal? Quote

I also skipped jigs and other heavy easy to skip baits. What’s minimum weight you would use? Quote
