Andy Taylor Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Do you have a battery, trolling motor, etc. in each, or do you transfer between boats? The reason I'm asking is, I'm thinking about buying a second boat(cheap, smaller, lighter) to use on a couple lakes that are too hard to launch my bigger boat. I'm thinking about a 12' or 14' V-hull or flat bottom jon. Thanks. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 2 sets of gear for both. both have their own everything. tool box, life jackets, running lights and so on. the battery is road kill dead since it has just sat since i got the bass boat. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 I have 3. Different T/M motors. Quote
HPBB Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 3 boats. I did have one set that I transfered from boat to boat. but as I upgraded stuff the big boat got the new stuff and the smaller boats got the old stuff, so now each have their own equipment. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 I've got three that I use most, a Stratos 169V with 115 merc that stays at one lake, a Fisher 15' aluminum with a 50 Johnson, and a 20' Javelin with a 225 rude. All three of these have 24V TM's and three batteries in each, front and console mouted LCD sonars and onboard chargers. They are always fish ready. I also have a couple of jons and a 17' canoe. For those I have a 4hp, 9.9hp and 25hp tilller motors and two 12V transome mounted TM's I can stick on for the lake/river I'm going to be going in. For a battery I just ****** one out of one of the other boats when I need one. I used to keep a battery on a maintainer for those but it rarely got used so I finally quit that. When I get ready to go fishing, I don't want to spend hours getting a boat ready, then get to the lake and find I don't have something I need. I even keep pretty good stock of rods/reels and tackle in the Stratos and Javelin so I don't have to haul tackle back and forth. Quote
Andy Taylor Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Thanks guys. If I do buy a second small boat, I want to keep my expenses down as much as possible. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 I've got two canoes. One, I paddle, the other I use with a TM. I have a paddle with the blade fiberglassed, since it is used to fend the canoe off the rocks or as a push pole among the rocks. Too abusive on wood alone. The paddle goes back and forth between the canoes. The larger canoe is used when someone goes with me. The smaller when I fish alone on the smaller ponds. One anchor. One first aid kit, etc. Takes all of five minutes to transfer gear between the two. Even if I had two boats with trolling motors, I would not get a motor and battery for each. I carry my canoe in the back of my pickup. To load it, the battery comes out, and the motor comes off, and gets stowed behind me. The battery gets secured in the back with the canoe. If I had a second boat, carried in the back, or even on a trailer, it would make no difference. I'd swap the TM and battery back and forth all day for the hundreds of bucks it would cost to have seconds of each. In the end, it boils down to this. For you, is the "convenience" worth the expense of an additional TM and battery? Quote
simplejoe Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I transfer Batteries back and forth until I save more money for the new boat to get new ones and I took the Tm off the one boat for the new one until I find one. Other than that I got 2 of everything. joe Quote
