I've been wanting to get some Mend-It soft plastic glue for some hollow belly swimbaits I tore trying to internally weight and hook them. I see a few different glues, which is best.

Next I saw some Do-it brand UV plastic dip. Supposed to be clear but imparts a UV coating that fish can see. Anyone used it? They have dip, spray, and markers.

I use the 1/2 size Mend-It.  It's got a brush applicator.  Reminds me of nail polish.  Easy to use and pays for itself.  Store in a cool place.

No experience with the other product mentioned.

I tried super glue and it wouldn't stick on the hollow body swimbaits. Mend it will stick and fix them?

What is the bait made of?

In the simplest terms I can explain, it will melt the plastic and bond it.  Only takes a few seconds.  I would make sure the surfaces are clean and dry, and apply to both sides.

Mend It is necessity for me with the amount of Keitechs I throw.  Its not like a glue in an adhesive sense.  It kind breaks down the outside layer of the plastic to the point where it bonds back together.  If you add Mend It to a thin appendage like a craw antenna or a slender ribbon tail it can eat right through it.  If you use a really small amount it may work on hollow bodies.  In the case that it doesn't, you will still be able to use it on other plastics.

I dont know what formula they are made of but they are the Boyd Duckett hollow belly swimbaits I found on TW. I'll probably have to scrape all the super glue off before using mend it I'm guessing.

About that UV thing... (starts at about 5:49 if the timestamp doesn't work)

I didn't know it either, and I had ordered a two pack of "UV enhanced Fish Sticks". To be fair, the only reason I got the UV ones was because TW had it as a pack and it was cheaper than the regular ones. Edwin Evers had two videos with Mark Sexton and he explained a ton about the biology and anatomy of bass.

Was at BPS last night and they didn't have mend it so I picked up a tube of Plastic Surgery. I think thats what its called. It was in the fly tying area and I figured I would try it and if it didnt work just order Mend It. Ive heard the spike it plastic bonder is garbage so staying away from that.

I use a good bit on Mend-It and have given up using the brush and instead use toothpicks to apply it.  As others have said, it will melt thinner plastics and over applying it can make a rip worse as it can cause the "wound" to open up more.  I have also found that the brush can bring bits of plastic back into the bottle, which can cause it to gum up and become unusable after a time.

Depending on what size swimbait you are using, heating up a ‘spatula’ type dental tool with a lighter allows you to weld bigger cuts back together in the larger baits. Way better than glue in those applications.

So basically melting it back together? Never tried that. Would it work on thin wall hollow belly swimbaits?

It might depending on where the tear is. If it’s from the hook underneath to the back it should.

Let me know how it works, I think we go to the same bass pro and it would be nice to have something I can pick up in store instead of having to make another big tw order

Mend-It is a must have if you are using expensive plastics.  It's also fun if you want to create your own baits by glueing parts to it.

I don't think you'll find much science to back up the UV hype.

Your profile says Tulsa so the one in Broken Arrow would be it! Luckily I live about a mile from it so I go there way too much! I'll let you know how it works. I agree if I make a TW order I'm getting $50 worth so i can get free shipping, but just for lure glue I'll go local even if its not the mend it brand. If it sucks I'll make an excuse to spend the minimum $50 at TW haha.
